OK, first in reply to homebirthmountainmama's question I tried using the county water district well information site but had trouble understanding or at least finding the information I needed, finally I started emailing back and forth with the klamath county zoning office and they came up with the well depths, also since my last post I had a chance to visit my property and met my closes neighbor and she was really able to fill in alot of the blank spots about the area for me. If you are going to build I strongly suggest that you check into the zoning restrictions my property is zoned residental (R2) and is actualy in a designated tract called the sprague river valley acres, if I understand correctly long after these home sites were approved the county goverment discovered that the whole area around Beatty is disignated a large animal mid/low density winter range which basically means that they can stop you from building ( even though you are zoned for it ) or at least require special use permits with restrictions.please read over some of the replys I have received, they have helped me a great deal and will prbably help you to.
And in reply to Sarahkate-m
This is the first I have heared about any water contamination, at least the county didn't mention it and my neighbor said that her well water was good so I,m guessing that that is an isolated area ( at least thats what I'm hoping ) on the Goal 5 thing I was told on the side that if they try to stop us from building in a tract they aproved and zoned for houses that just the threat of a law suit would probably be enough insentive to get things straightened out, any way I'm praying that it doesn't come to that.
God Bless Gary

Hi Gary

I had been wondering about the well log site & all the entries for the Sycan Shops area: "Annual groundwater sampling will occur at the site to evaluate the remedy".

The DEQ site helped me figure out what was going on. I'm hoping it's limited too. But you know polluters love ignorance. My property is on Partin - tract 1010, block 18, lot 12.

I just googled this & found this bit o' news to share: DEQ News Release Just another story of a big company being lazy & selfish, in my opinion:

"From 1940 through the early 1990s, Weyerhaeuser conducted locomotive and railcar maintenance in the Sycan shop. Petroleum compounds and chlorinated solvents contaminated soil and groundwater at the site. The company demolished most of the site’s small buildings when the facility closed in 1992."

After a lot of double talk, the site seems to say that after the public hearing, which has already passed, then nothing will be done anymore to remedy this situation... sounds like it to me, anyway: "Following the public comment period and consideration of any comments received, DEQ expects to issue a No Further Action determination for the site. "

What do you think? I say get a good test on your water & be aware as who to contact & hopefully a clean water remedy... I wouldn't just want bottled water for drinking. I'd want clean water to wash with, too. Your skin is an organ that can absorb contaminants.

I googled "sycan pollution deq +beatty +oregon" & found the qualifications listed for one of the engineers from the Sycan Shop cleanup. This guy also worked on a remedial project in Bly. So there could be other places around there that we need to know about... Untitled

Default well water

I think your right as to the testing, when I was trying to make heads or tails out of the county well web site I do remember reading that all wells must be tested yearly they just didn't say why as far as I can remember. When I talked to my neighbor in beatty she didn't mention anything about well water contamination but I definitely will be checking into it.I'm guessing that the contamination level is either very low where my property is or it hasn't reached that area.If I find out anything new I'll post it the same day.
God Bless Gary

thank you for your reply Gary. i too found the well log site hard to navigate. our property is zoned R5 - and the county zoning map does not show any density zoning for our area. our property is about 20 miles north of beatty.

thank you for all your helpful information! i will be checking this thread for updates and more info!

that was what I have been looking for, since I last posted I did find out that most of the wells on my street are between 120 and 140 feet deep and good producers so thats a relief ( that includes all 3 homes ), I still don't know about water quality but I can deal with that. I think the biggest concern I need to work through now is the restrictions that supposedly have been imposed in the tract my property is in. it seems when they created the tract in the 60s or 70s they conveniently forgot that they had zoned the area as a Deer mid/low density winter range, so now even though the property is zoned R-2 it's not certain that they will even allow me to build on it, I have tried several times to get straight answers out of the county management but so far nothing, If you read the restrictions that show on the county web site under what they call the Goal-5 restrictions and amendments it looks like they intend to block almost all home construction in areas like mine.Any way I'm still a few years out from building so hopefully this can all be resolved. Thanks again for the information.
