Wow, Gary! You have done your homework! I want to live off grid, so I guess Adair isn't for me.... but by the time "I get around to it" - things could be different...

I had no idea about the building restriction on size. How wierd. When I read about places like Maine, where I think you CAN camp on your property, probably do whatever you want there, it makes me wonder why we can't get different legislation here....

I bet it's different here because I have read that people around KFalls have abused their options.... like meth labs & what not...

Thanks for being such a great "Neighbor," Gary : )

Uh, Sarah, I hate to burst your bubble, but Maine has some serious restrictions on land use as well.

Dang. Well.... thanks. I wouldn't move there anyways... I thought it was better than Oregon, though.

What, from the county? There isn't a minimum house size set by the county.

That's generally set by CCRs or a HOA.

The guidelines I saw were for the state.

The only size I saw mentioned online was 200 max for non-habitable construction for storage purposes & 200 minimum for a garage. I think I saw a double wide requirement for a mfr'd home but I'm not sure...it was hard to figure out if they meant mobiles in parks or any mobile/mfr'd home.

I just when' back on the klamath falls county web site looking for the size restrictions and as far as I can tell they arent listed any more ( I hope they got rid of them). I found part of the documentation for usage that I made a hard copy of a couple of years ago and the restrictions ( I believe) were noted back then in Article 56.2, Open space and conservation (OS&C), I'm missing part of the document and so far I have been unable to relocate it on line. I did find a possible exception clause for residential uses on a lot or parcel created prior to November 15,1990, that is found in Article 57.060 paragraph 4.A, if thats right it means that I bypass there restrictions, well at least some of them. I hope that helps: Fyi: what I did find was a partial copy of there old web site located in the univerity of oregons archieves, not much but a start.
God Bless Gary

OK,new question, I have been watching the weather reports for the beatty area for some time now and especially during the summer and fall I keep seeing periods of smoke forcast for variouse times of day, is this from forest fires or due to people using wood stoves or what?

Forest fires. Very bad today especially. The fire down below Lakeview, on the California/Oregon border, is finally contained, but the Rush Fire near Susanville, Calif, is huge and the wind shifted today to just flood the valleys around here with smoke. The Rogue Valley (Medford, Ashland, etc) is also bad today, as well as Bend and over to Burns.

The last 2 years we've had a long cool spring and that leads to an unusually heavy undergrowth. Then as things dry out, lighting (and stupid humans) starts fires everywhere. Drive around and you'll see every "fire danger" sign set to the highest possible level.
