Massage Therapy in Oregon?
My husband is about to be done with his massage therapy licensing - he is getting it while we are here in Vegas - and it is a 850 hour course - plus he has 200 hours from previous schooling.
As soon as he is done we would like to get the heck out of Las Vegas! So we were thinking of SLC - but now are focusing on Oregon - specifically Eugene. But I am unsure if there are jobs there, and what the state requirements for massage therapy are..
Anyone have any information for us? That would be great!
Is Eugene a good city for this? Is there another - that isn't as big as Portland that you would recommend?
Thanks

Check into the Oregon reciprocation laws. Everyone I have heard of with a license, contractors, nursing, real estate, or CPA, appraiser, electricians, has need to get re-certified to Oregons rules.
He may need to take an Oregon licensing test, or go through the whole process again.

You need to get ahold of the Oregon Board of Massage Therapy and find out if he has completed all of the required hours in every section ranging from kinesiology to communications to bussiness and ethics. They are very helpful people and you can get their phone number off of their website. He will then need to apply to take the Oregon Board practical examination and be Nationaly certified. If he hasn't taken the NCTMB by june, then he will need to take the MBLEx, because the NCTMB will no longer be accepted in the state of Oregon. It is a bit of a process, but well worth it. I don't think that you will have a problem finding yourself at home here in Oregon. Good Luck!

lorageneva - You are replying to a post that is more than a year old. I doubt whether the original poster is still monitoring this thread waiting for an answer.

Funny enough - I did come back to this post and am grateful someone responded Better late than never! We actually ended up in Denver for quite a bit longer than we expected and are now looking to get the heck out of here. We've stayed here way too long. Not to bash Colorado, it's certainly been an experience. The best place we've moved so far. The crime has gotten to us though and we need out. So back to the drawing board with Oregon - where we've wanted to be! I think we might finally be able to make the trip! YAY
We found out his school he went to is lacking in kinesiology by 2 hours or something like that so he will have to take a class to make up that. Since he has more than a yr experience now though they said he should be able to take the class and get his licensing.
