I had shoulder surgery on my rotator cuff
at Silverton Hospital
and LOVED the place and the staff
would do it all again just to be there
in such a wonderful environment.
heard an elderly man say that he drives
all the way from the Oregon coast, just
to see a doctor and that hospital ...
that is a long drive.
Salem Hospital is good, staff is great,
but the parking is a nightmare.

Have you been there now that the new hospital is completed? Parking is not an issue the past few times I have been there.

Well hey the clinic idea sounds pretty cool to me. I want to do more preventative and happier work. I'm worn out being a floor nurse. There is no time for holistic care and we barely have time to keep the patients alive. It is very depressing, and I will soon be writing congress, ect., about this and trying to get involved in safe staffing laws once I have enough energy on my days off.
Well, I got a couple calls from Salem Hospital. I guess I bombed both the interviews . Well I applied for L&D and they never called back, then the ICU called from there and the manager thought I was full of crap, I guess. She was like wondering how I could be interested in both L&D and ICU. I told her I am more interested in L&D honestly, but I would really love the ICU experience. So, that and some of my other answers did it and she sent me an email not even an hour later saying I wasn't right for the position.
I have apps in all over the state. I am so disappointed . I feel like my dream of moving and starting fresh in Oregon is going to again be put on hold. Mike needs to start school this fall, so we've gotta get a move on if we're going, or we'll have to stay here, plus I've gotta give my work 30 days notice if we would leave ... so yea, time is running out. Anyway, let me know if you wanna open that clinic, haha. Just pay me good! It's expensive there no doubt! lol

hey cool we'll have all the staff already lined up! cool! and yea it cost me i think around $300 total to get my license in oregon - that sucks! it should be free. i need to look into that compact deal more. i'm wondering say a state is part of it but my state isn't could i move to that state and still work without paying for a new license even if my current license state isnt in the compact?

I know you said Portland, and a previous post said that you didn't like Southern Oregon, but have you tried either Rogue Valley Medical Center or Providence in Medford? Ashland also has a hospital as does Grants Pass (Three Rivers Medical Center). I worked for RVMC and TRMC and really liked both places. I know RVMC has a strong nurses' union, but also know they've recently laid off a LTO of staff, RN's included.
Ashland has Southern Oregon University (it was SOSC when I was there) in Ashland that would meet your DH's needs.
In my experience, graduating from OHSU in Portland, the smaller more rural hospitals were easier to get jobs in than in and around Portland. I had a job waitign for me in Grants Pass, where many of my class-mates who wanted to stay in Portland didn't. RVMC had a $2000 signing bonus when I was working there (we left in 2006) for RN's of any kind.
Good luck!
PS We had several folks come to RVMC fresh out of school, then move to Portland or Seattle after a few years... An option...
