Had company in this town this week and went up to Crater Lake and then camped at various spots on the Cascades Lakes Highway. Mosquitoes are bad in the mountains right now - not so bad down lower, but the very wet spring has pushed peak mosquito season back from late spring into what should be mid-summer.
In general, there are mosquitoes in Central Oregon, especially around any marshy sites (and despite the general dry climate, there are lots of marshes, small streams and lake areas). It can get bad in the spring after the snow melt, but generally tapers off in summer. I usually schedule camping trips for late summer/early autumn to get away from mosquitoes.
Here at the house (20 miles south of Crater Lake), mosquito "season" is over and we still have a few, but not particularly bothersome (I get huge welts from bites, so I pay close attention).
