Default Moving from TX to Beaverton

Have accepted a job in the IT field that was originally posted for TX, but has now been assigned to OR. Using this as an excuse to get out of the fire place and get somewhere cooler.

Since I have never been to Beaverton... looking for input as to what areas to avoid for renting and what areas might be "safe".

Eventually I will be joined by the wife, but for right now I am single again

So you're looking for a place to rent and some action on the side until your wife moves up there?

Nice but no!! Looking for a place to rent more than likely an apartment.

was looking at the areas of:

West Beaverton
South Beaverton
Sexton Mountain
Greenway
West Slope

as they appear to have the least amount of "crime". Which one of these is closet to the Nike area?

Nothing in Beaverton is really too far from the Nike campus. The area adjacent to Nike immediately North of the campus is not a particularly great neighborhood. And the "downtown" area likewise. Conventional wisdom is that the Murray Hills, Cedar Hills, and Hyland Hills areas are pretty nice, as well as the Bethany area on the other side of Hwy 26 (north of Beaverton proper), although that could be more drive time. But most of the neighborhoods I mentioned are residential rather than apartments.

Have you thought about renting a house or a townhome? There are a zillion out there right now since nobody's buying houses.

One of the nicer areas is Orenco Station in Hillsboro. It's probably 15 minutes from Beaverton. You might also want to look at the apartments along Murray between about Hart Road and Scholls Ferry.

I can't think of any area that's downright "unsafe" nor can I think of any area that's perfectly "safe".

Schedule a trip to find a place to live and it'll be pretty obvious which are the better areas.

Out of the frying pan, into the shower, eh?
Pretty much what everyone else said. Murray Hill is slightly pretentious.
But yeah, fly here and have a look around.

Been in Beaverton since 1963 myself.

You named some good areas.

Murrayhill area near Scholls Ferry Rd. x Murray Blvd. has plenty of nice apartments. Some on Teal Blvd. too > Google it.

Here are areas that I do not like, and you can zoom in on Google Earth to see.

Not - right along Murray Blvd. from Allen Blvd. to Hy. 26
Not / Not - along Allen Blvd. from Murray Blvd. to Hy. 217

On top of Sexton Mountain along Murray Blvd. between Hart Rd. and Brockman Rd. is a nice apartment complex on the hill facing south.

Someone said Bethany area - that is a good area.

Also, at and near SW 185th Avenue x Cornell Rd. is a decent complex to keep in mind. You can clearly see it on Google Earth.

Personally, I would not live anywhere near Center Street, where there are hoards of apartments.

Two favorite areas are the Bethany area and Murrayhill. I grew up in the latter when it was all farmland and fields.
