Salem needs another 10 years to qualify for some hustle and bustle. Getting there, but has a ways to go. Yes, Oregonians have scared away many folks for being too boring...you'll probably do just fine here.
My next question would be what can you afford for an acre of land with a house? Land is not cheap here in the valley.

If indeed folks out there are like you say they are, then I have no need for so much land. Perhaps even a .5 or.3 would be fine.
I guess I'm coming from a paranoid state of mind, thinking that I have to have much territory to sort of shield myself from a rude or noisy neighbor with a barking dog.
I also would like a Log Cabin kind of look and not the typical cookie cuter look. The most I have budgeted for this is a lil less then 200K

We have lots of dogs out here. So what are you looking to spend? Some areas are cheaper than others.

Theres always fake boobs and considering since Portland is considered the stripper capital im sure theres more. Silverton is this cool little town right outside of Salem with lots of character...not far from the mountain activities etc. Coming from Florida im used to the humid rain and head and although it rains alot in Oregon...suprisingly it was not humid at all.

I see property taxes in Silverton are pretty cool. About $1200 for an acre with a nice home. I pay around $2500 for my tiny ass 1 bedrm condo in Miami Beach

surprised nobody has mentioned Lakeview, the "tallest town in Oregon", at 4,800 feet. Might be a little too remote though.

Lakeview was actually the first town I looked at considering that it has such a high elevation. It turns out (after reading all the replies) that in Oregon, elevation does not equal cooler climate. The Willamette Valley regions, I now believe has the most temperate climate in the summer. Correct me if I’m wrong.

I believe the economy is much worse in Miami then it is in Oregon but in Miami, the local government and the media are keeping it under the blankets so u guys in Oregon don't hear about it, but the folks that live down here in hell really know how bad it is. In Oregon, u guys are too good to lie about things like that. That is why I want to move there, to be with good folks...

Nietzschele, why out of 49 other states did you pick Oregon? Just curious.
I looked at your Swiss weather stats, and the first place that came to mind was Northern Minnesota. No mountains though.

As far as the east coast: been there done that. Middle America, I was never really attracted to (perhaps I should look into it). California is a lil too cheeky for my taste and since I'm craving weather contrast, I think geographically Oregon might be a good choice. And the cherry on top might just be the behavioral aspect of the Oregonians. I hope Im not being misunderstood when I say without elaboration: Miami is a banana republic..(and I dont just mean that in a political sense but rather culturaly) Please, my all means, open my horizon with any worthy sugestions. OK. I will take a look at Northern Minn. I'm afraid I might feel a lil intellectually claustrophobic there though. No?
