Talking Western Oregon Anyone _ Thoughts???

My family and I have been looking at Boise Idaho and more and more of you state we need to look at western Oregon - we arein our 40's have a 12 yr old and looking for town/city that has about 50-100k people
We like alive downtowns with cafe's, quaint areas, quiet living, restaurants (not chains), friendly people, good schools and college or university closeby.
We love the outdoors(camoping and biking) and water (canoe, swimming, fishing)we love lakes..
- don't want a lot of snow and freezing weather...
Can anyone help us - we love green trees and are tired of the desert brown.
thank you

We're planning on moving to the area just north of Bend. Little towns like Terra Bone. A little bigger is Redmound, Most of the Eastern side of the Sierras (are they called that up there?). Not as much rain as the western side. I've been told that the growth in this central Oregon is "where it's at". That could be good or bad. We've lived here in Victorville, Ca and seen it grow from a one stop sign town to L.A. style grid lock. Time to sell and move on.
