Having lived in the Corvallis/Albany area for close to 15 years, I have not seen much evidence of gang activity. The Portland area has some gang activity, as do most cities of that size.

Even with Portland, Oregon just isn't a state known for gang activity. I don't know what they have to prove here.

Great post, you have done a good service here! The first one gives great information on Washington County which IMO has a bigger problem than the greater Portland area. Good Job, recomend a quick view to any interested, by the way the 18th street is big in the Gateway area in Portlant close to PDX, I know, I have removed lots of tags in the past from rental property in the area.

The problem I have with those types of websites are they aren't very accurate. For all we know, some kid who wishes he/she is from a ghetto collects information from other kids via Internet or at school. Law Enforecement sites (FBI, ICE, etc.) are good resources.

Salem has a growing Problem, as well as Woodburn. There is a North/South Issue, there's a gap in Keizer are. But 13 st Hobbs is one in the south salem area. I know this from foster parents in the area. The kids feel that they aren't the true family and seek other means of support from a group.

Albany hasn't had much of a problem from my noticing of living here. I lived in salem 3 years and now live in Albany. I haven't noticed much in Corvallis Either.

Eugene I have no clue about. I would assume with their size there would be some.

When I lived in Umatilla I know that Hermiston fit in with the Pendleton gangs. They had some issues with gangs coming down from the Tri-cities trying to take over the territory. I worked with many Hispanics and heard of the friends who were involved with this. So there are some issues in that area.

But that's my knowledge of that stuff. It is a problem, but like the one lady said "Tax and spend" Limits the effiecient forces to fight it.

Like I said, many of these are hearsay. You mentioned you know about ganga ctivity because of foster parents and another you knew a guy who was involved. Alot of kids here like to claim things that isn't true or not a part of. I remember there was this guy I worked with and claimed to be "respected" in Klamath Falls and went on and on about how he gets so much respect here. I'm not going to take that as evidence of gang activity.

I agree that contacting the local law enforcement is a good idea. I have in the past when my husband has been transferred to new areas and we were researching the new location. The sort of response I get from them, though, is "Lock your doors, you'll be fine... no place is entirely safe..." Most websites affiliated with the local police depts though have areas where you can see what crimes have occurred and when... those are helpful.

If you look at the gang-related websites I posted, though, you'll see that there is a lot of info - including published news stories from various mainstream sources as well as actual pictures of gang tags and where they were found. It feels, at least to me, like a pretty good resource when you're trying to get an idea of what to watch out for.

Nobody should believe everything they hear or read online or on TV... but the more you expose yourself to the better I think when trying to decide on areas to settle your family into. You have to learn all you can and then using you're own judgment and perhaps reading between the lines a bit make the best choice you can based on what you've learned.

i don't know where you're from in oregon, but you're more than welcome to come down to medford and take a walk (after dark) in Virginia Vogel Park, or maybe drive down CL Rd. Perhaps you could find a nice spot on East Mcandrews or in the Delta Water district. I'm sure some of the many "hearsay gangbangers" that congreate would love to keep you company. They'll probably strip your car, mug you and steal your wallet with a smile, but what'll really set em' off is knowing that you think they're lightweight. Oh, yeah, they hate that.
