Default Rentals on acreage?

My husband is looking to take a new job in the Wilsonville area. We are country people who loves are 4 wheelers, gokarts, hunting and fishing. We have always lived in the Arizona country on acreage in a very small community. Where would you suggest I start looking for rentals on acreage in surrounding towns? Any info would be greatly appreciated, since we are starting this look from scratch. We also have 4 children 3 of which are in school. So schools and a safe community are of upmost importance too! Thanks!

Kinda a tuff one to tackle. Western Oregon is super restrictive on rural property, its either timber or Farm use exclusively which makes small acreages that are buildable few and expensive. Multiple residence on same tracts are either illegal or older established arrangements. Most of what I see in rental on acreage are older double wides that are there because the original owner wasn't allowed a site built home. Not to say they don't exist but that type of property around here is worth a lot more than what a rental typically brings in.

The Wilsonville area is spread out over three counties, so it's kind of hard to suggest anything, depending upon how far your husband wants to drive.

Look at a map, and try checking out the towns along Highway 51 (which parallels I-5) and Highway 213 to Highway 211. The towns of Aurora, Hubbard, Canby, Beavercreek area, Mulino and Molalla are probably what you're after. All of them have several back road routes to get to I-5.

You might be able to find something with a bit of property to rent the further east & south you go. That area is routinely called "south county"(Clackamas County). A lot of it is redneck, rural, hunting types, etc. (Please no flaming...this is a Cliff notes version ).

I agree with bman. Because we have restrictive land use laws here, we don't have a lot of acreage properties. That area south of Wilsonville tends to be pretty desirable acreage due to it's proximity to Portland.

If you head farther south into Brooks and Gervais areas, you may find something. It will take some searching though.

You'll find Canby out toward Molalla (east and southeast) more affordable than the west side, but there are increasingly more places on acreage for rent. DO run a credit check on the landlord, though - as some folks can't sell, so they rent the place out. Also look in the farm country south of Wilsonville.
It depends how far you want to drive. If you're willing to drive 15-30 miles one way, you will find what you're looking for. But it may take time.

You will have to look around - Craigslist is a good place to start.
