Default Anyone know anything about Altamont OR?

Hi, I am moving to Oregon from So Cal and would love to have some info on Altamont, near Klamath Falls. Looks like the rainfall is about the same as So Cal, and the snow looks do-able, other than that...I know NOTHING about this little town that I just discovered. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Silky

I notice there are almost 20,000 people living in this place you refer to as not a "real" city - so is Altamont just considered a part of Klamath Falls? We have been looking at Bend as the best place to move, but the snowfall looks less in Altamont area, and I like that. Help anyone?

Default suburb of K. Falls

Altamont is adjacent to southeast Klamath Falls, is unincorporated. Only exists because residents have sucessfully fought off annexation for 30-40 years. It's listed as an Oregon city here on City-Data.

I see each lists about 20,000 population. I've been confused as to whether each is claiming the same 20,000 or there are 40,000 in the area.

I lived in Klamath Falls for a short while in 1971 - I liked Moore Park and the mountains there - Altamont didn't have any mountains as far as I could tell, and was just flat farm and ranch land. I don't remember much about the town of Altamont.

Klamath Falls is Scenic and has the Klamath River there - that is nice.

It's roughly 40,000 combined between KFalls and Altamont, which is why Klamath Falls is larger than you'd expect, based on the listed 20,000 population. It's also why, here on the City-Data page, Altamont doesn't have any crime stats, it's all part of Klamath Falls.
