Default relocating to Salem

Hi, I am looking to relocate to the Salem area. However, I want to live in one of the surrounding areas, like Dallas or Silverton, that are still within a 30 minute drive to Salem. Does anyone have any recommendations? I am concerned about crime, good schools, friendly people, nice neighborhoods, and good views if possible. I would like to live somewhere close to hiking trails, although I realize this is hard to come by in Salem. Also, I am looking for a house in the 150K to 220K range. Thanks in advance for any help.

There are a lot of great small towns outside of Salem. Dallas and Silverton are great I also recommend Monmouth or Independence. I lived in Monmouth for many years and it has a very low crime rate, good schools, and is a very nice community. People are very friendly, it is sort of a bedroom town where many people who work in larger cities live becasue they want to live in a smaller town. I also know of many homes in the price range you are looking in, I am also a Realtor and if you would like more information on any of the towns outside of Salem I would be happy to help you out. .

Consider Stayton - small town (8,000), 20 minutes east of Salem. Relatively affordable housing, nice little town, good parks, and great location.

Whatever you do, avoid Lancaster Street and especially, Lancaster Commons.
