Default Idaho to Oregon?

Thinking of a move--sounds familiar, huh? Born and raised in southeast Id. , a suburb of Salt Lake City. Ready to experience a "blue-er" state. Starting to think retirement and maybe a move to a place closer to the ocean and salmon/steelhead rivers. I'm a landscaper with a passion for water features and would like to continue(semi-retire!) , and fishing. This is an expensive specialty, and would require a clientele with an appreciation and enough disposable income in relatively close proximity to make a move worthwhile. Signifigant other is a librarian who also appreciates the sea and shares my love of Anadramous species. Simple living, affordable housing, and part time work--considering Roseburg, Coquille, Coos Bay areas. Any suggestions or comments would be appreciated. Feel free to email too! Will be there Aug 15 - 25 to escape the heat and scout(102 in the shade right now!) Thanks in advance.

The weather here is right nice today. If you're looking for a place that people have a lot of money you'd need to look elsewhere. Possiblely Medford, Eugene, Bend or Portland but those areas are more expensive to live in. It's a choice of living in an affordable place or living in an expensive one where people have more money.

Well, we Have lots of water and fish out here. I think the Oregon coast has the very best seafood anywhere.
I live in the bay area. The summer weather is really good here but They get a bit more sun in Coquille and Roseburg.

Now as for selling water features;I don't know about that. You see we are surrounded by water between the bay and the ocean. Many people have a bay or ocean view. I'm the only one of my neighbors who even has a birdbath.

Coquille is less expensive to buy or rent in but incomes there are less.

That's what I have found, in looking at properties on the coast. Water features and landscaping seems very well provided by Nature. Eugene seems like a place where you would have more of a market for landscape design with or without water features, as well as being close to fishing in lakes/rives, if not steps from the ocean. Some of the smaller inland towns might have too limited a market potential to support your business, I'd guess. And Eugene should be blue enough for you...of course ANYWHERE is more blue than Idaho/Utah!

I feel your pain, Idaho.... A/C was on the fritz in my office in SLC yesterday...112 in my particular spot with my oh so nice in Winter south-facing window. Felt like I was sitting in a sauna all day. I will be scouting along the coast just about when you are, 15th to 22nd. I'm starting in Eugene, looking at lake property there then driving up to Newport and on down the line. Was thinking of popping over to Ashland after Brookings but I can't find any waterfront property for sale there except on tiny creeks, and I've already got one of those here.

Note to Steve: I've tried twice to reply to your posts on the tsunami/homeschool thread, and they haven't posted. Gist of message was that at this point in my life's journey, I am ready to move to a waterfront or steps-away location somewhere in the USA where I can own a 3 or 4 bed, stick-built home outright for something like 500K. I am looking at the North Carolina coast too, but not sure if I can stand the Bible-thumpers, mosquitos and bugs big enough to haul off a Buick. I had not though about the central Cal coast, but if I can find what I'm looking for there, I will consider it. My boys' education is important, and for long and complicated reasons, I am hoping for smaller towns with fewer kids and smaller class sizes. I am not in possession of those numbers yet for the coastal schools, as accurate, current info does not appear to be available on the net and no one is answering to phones, but it is a priority for me and I will of course find out before I move anywhere.

Hope everyone's weather is just to his/her liking today - I shall no doubt be sweltering again

Hey Waterlily, Ive got the bay out my front window and I still have my birdbath too. lol
Gotta be loving the mild temps while theyre roasting up the valley, eh?
Betcha Sunset Bay is gonna be crowded this weekend!

Gthfish, if you make a move to CoosBay area, make sure you have a job secured before moving. It can be pretty shaky depending on what you do. And you might wanna move fairly quick. Lots of people from Cali have found our town and area and housing prices have shot up. sigh

Hey tiffel74, it's good to hear from another Bay area person. Yep I can see the bay too, but I'm not what you'd call a waterfront property. Those birds seem to be enjoying the birdbaths. When I turn on the water sprinkler the birds hop in the water for a shower.
We had a high of 68 degrees here yesterday. It's so nice this time of year except for some reason we've got clouds moving in today.Maybe a thunderstorms coming.
Yes we have lots of people from Cal and Nevada too moving in. It's okay as it gives us kind of a mixed bag of people.
