So I've been looking for a place to buy 5-20 acres for the purpose of creating a self sufficient life for my family and I, and hopefully be able to serve the neighbors and those in need.. I'm leaving California for many reasons and I've considered Texas (too hot), New Mexico (too remote and high crime), Arizona (too few places with water), and Southern Colorado (water rights issues)...and now. I'm thinking Southern Oregon may have a nice balance of weather and water as well as the social and political climate that may be a good fit as well..we home school our children and I'm also an artist so my job can be done from anywhere within an hour or so of an airport with commercial service. Can anyone suggest some communities to start my search? Places with ag communities and near to farmers markets, not too far out in the boonies..thanks for your help. Your all invited to come help me pick and enjoy the fresh goat cheese

The Applegate Valley. It's west of Medford. I used to fight forest fires ddown there and it's incredible. Steve Miller used to have a ranch there. (Still might for all I know.) I also grew up in Southern Oregon and know the country pretty well.

I know of a place that may be for sale in Williams. It is in the Applegate valley. It is 14 acres, and has water rights to Williams Creek, it has been certified organic for many years. If I remember correctly it was the first one in the valley to get certified.
It has a 3 bd. home on it, out buildings and a big barn. If you want info on it pm me and I will locate the website that has the information about it. I'm not a realtor, and will not benefit from this information, just trying to network people and what they are seeking. |

I highly recommend Williams. I grew up there and it's absolutely gorgeous!!! There are a lot of people there that are into organic gardening, herbal medicine and taking care of the earth. Herb Pharm, a now international producer of quality herbal tinctures is located there...heck, I still remember when we would go to Ed and Sarah's house and buy the herbal tinctures they made in their kitchen before they got "big". I would love to live there again.
The closest commercial airport is about 1 hour away in Medford. Grants pass is about 15 - 20 minutes away and it has all your shopping needs. GP also has a very active Grower's Market that you could sell your products at. |
