Default Small towns in Oregon

My husband and I are looking to possibly relocate to Oregon from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. We both love Oregon and are looking for a small town, or at least one that does not have major traffic congestion with yuppies and SUVs galore, to move to. We love the Gorge area and especially like Hood River, but homes are a bit too expensive for our budget. Can anyone suggest some places to explore that would give a small town feel and a low key pace of life? I appreciate any input provided.

Good luck on avoiding the SUV's and yuppies...

Look at Roesburg. It's on the west side of the Cascades and might get a little hot in the summer, but the countryside is unmatched in beauty. It's real close to the coast and cascades.

Klamath Falls possibly. Grants Pass. The Dalles. The central Willamette Valley has a lot of nice small towns without a lot of conjestion.

If you go further east of Hood River the prices of homes will go down.
The towns are not quite as nice as Hood River but that's why Hood River is High. Also it puts you further from Portland which may make it less expensive.

Somewhere between Hood River and The Dalles you lose the forest. It starts looking more like the plains states.

Thanks so much, a friend of mine had mentioned Roseburg, I'll look into that area. I'm beginning to realize that the dream of living in a semi-secluded area as CDA once was, is not longer an option, too many people everywhere. It's hard to come to terms with. Thanks again.

So having an Excursion and a business is bad? We are not worthy of being your neighbor?

That's what makes life great, we all want to different surroundings. Some of us love being surrounded by SUVs, others of us prefer older cars, non-SUV surroundings, no judgment but we are all entitled to our preference.

I so appreciate new areas that are suggested, will look at Myrtle Creek too. Still love that Hood River area, but who wouldn't. Thanks all!

Klamath Falls has a little traffic. One who isn't from a big city might think it's bad. From what I've seen recently in Klamath Falls is that no one really knows how to drive in traffic. People just stop in the middle of the road to get into the next lane, slamming brakes. It's kind of like Crater Lake Hwy in Medford. I think the traffic is mostly due to the road construction going on.

The only issues I have with SUV's or huge monster trucks are they always block the view of traffic at an intersection and always take up alot of space when they park. Many times they take up two spaces.
