Precisely. I have a few umbrellas and I don't remember the last time I used them.

Get yourself a good quality rain jacket w/a hood that's wind and water proof. You'll be set! I can put on a heavy sweater underneath and it keeps me quite toasty.

It's kind of a soft, gentle rain that we have for the most part...now being up in the mountains is a different story ~

Thanks so much for your responses.
Oregonians have webbed feet, didn'cha know?

They don't even use umbrellas or galoshes.

The rain in the Willamette Valley isn't usually a downpour... People just pull their hoods up & go about their business...

Not sure about how kids play here. It's like a combo National Geographic/Sunset Magazine here. The sun peeks out through out the day, usually.

Winter is coming.... ugh. It'll be cold. It'll SNOW. Life goes on slowly, for the most part.

My favorite thing so far, since moving here, was seeing 2 boys near downtown Eugene, by or on Coburg Road, walking to the river with their fishing poles over their shoulders... Picturesque. They were about 11 years old. *buddies* BTW, I've heard the fish like to bite on overcast days...

I"ve seen more "buddiness" & pure simple happiness in children, boys, men, parents & the elderly since moving here. Couples on the street holding hands like there's no tomorrow.

Kate

This post reminded me of my first impressions of Portland.

You ride bikes even in the rain, which is not cold compared to Colorado.
Board games
People talk to each other

I love it.

Head down the street and grab yourself a nice hot cup of soup or coffee.
Go puddle jumping. Open the windows and enjoy the fresh *clean* air...um, except for mold spores.
Catch a movie at one of the many great indie movie theaters...
Etc.

I loved my time in Portland and Eugene and can't wait to get back as soon as I get my finances in order.

You know you can also get super cute rain boots here. One year I got matching lady bug boots for my daughter and me. I think some of the adult women rain boots are fun. They also have regular boots too for those not wanting smiley faces, or lady bugs
