Default Please help me avoid Coos Bay bad neighborhoods...

Quote from post, "Theres areas theres no way I would walk through, much less live!"
Would someone living there advise me please, I'd just die if I moved from my fabulous NE MI neighborhood across the US and ended up in one of these type areas.

I've heard that on the coast especially, or anywhere west of the Cascades, one needs to be very careful not to accidentally walk through a rogue pot farm, as the guards are armed.

Actually, I've never heard of bad neighborhoods on the coast (Gold Beach area is reputedly a gold mine of rogue pot farms though... *l*). I've heard the citizens at the beach tend to be senior citizens. Not much call for crime... is there?

It seems a RE agent would be helpful with this. I put the search terms of Oregon crime map & found this page for you, maybe it'll help? Coos Bay Arrest Records News - Free Arrest Records for Coos Bay

If you come here & rent at first, you'll learn alot before making a huge investment...Fewer regrets that way! Wish I had realized that when I came here 5 years ago.

I grew up here. Avoid Empire and Bunker Hill neighborhoods, low-rent districts with higher proportion of crime. Both Coos Bay and sister city North Bend have breakins/car clouts and general thievery much higher than in the 1970's-80's, most likely due to meth user population, don't think you can leave anything unlocked or walk alone on the streets at night without compromising your safety. It's not Mayberry USA, and that doesn't exist anywhere in small-town Oregon now. Take the same precautions you would in the city and you'll be fine. My brother moved to MN and much prefers the people and quality of life there! Pot farms tend to be in the extremely isolated/low population counties on the dry side of Oregon, example the recent huge grow found in eastern Oregon (see this week's Eugene Register-Guard). Yes they have booby traps and weapons, and generally employ illegals in god-awful conditions, but we don't see large-scale grows around Coos Bay much anymore, too many people in our local woods these days!
