Hi Rich! So funny to see your post on here because I live on the Oregon coast but I've been daydreaming on-line of moving to San Diego. ( Encinitas, Solana Beach area ) The mild year round temps and LESS RAIN would be soooo nice! I guess the grass always seems greener somewhere else no matter where you are. I notice that the cost of living down there is just too outrageous, so I doubt I would ever move down there. I hear San Diego is a rat race with lots of traffic too. That doesn't appeal to me. So anyway.... I'm living in Brookings, OR. It is extremely cliquey here. Everyone seems to be born & raised here and the whole town seems to be related. It's way too hard to break in here. I am moving in June. I have chosen Florence ( since San Diego is out of the question ) I think Florence is beautiful. The people have always been very friendly there. You can go to a pub in "Old Town" and it just feels like home. I have mentioned that I plan to move there and I have NEVER run into someone who was rude to me, they were very welcoming! Yes it does rain... & rain & rain. But Eugene is close enough for a day trip into the "city". In the summer there is plenty to do with 17 lakes, the dunes and of course the beach. I am also needing a rental and I also have pets. I called Elson Shields Property Management and they were very friendly and said that they are "pet friendly". I'd try them first. I'm also checking Craigslist daily and checking with other Prop Mgmt offices. Good luck to you wherever you end up! Amanda

hey searching....what kind of pet(s)? my inlaws live just outside of Florence and rent out a lakeside cabin on month/month and I believe its open right now....might PM me if youre interested?
I LOVE living along the coastline. 99% of the people ive met are quite friendly and people just seem so much more laid back living here. The lack of road rage and traffic is bliss! We've been having just beautiful weather, makes it darn hard to go to work! But, like the other day, for lunch, I packed my lunch and sat up on a secluded hillside, overlooking the bay and re-charged. I cant even begin to describe how awesome it is to be able to do that for lunch anytime i want. And then can be back to work within 5 min. of brushing the sand off my butt. Or, after a really crappy day at work, I simply go for a walk along the beaches, either wild and rocky cliffs, or to a nearly deserted stretch of long white sandy beach that goes on for as far as I can see. yeah, life is pretty good here.

Tiff... hey thanks for the response! I have one outside-only cat. He's 13 and very independent. I also have 2 mini-bulldogs. They will stay < 25 lbs. I got the bulldogs for my two girls. This has been an extremely hard year! The economy has taken a huge toll on my family! I have always been a homeowner. We just had to foreclose on our 6000 sq ft ocean view home here in Brookings. We had a very lucrative Trucking company, but the economy shut us down. Our black lab of 16 years got cancer and died. My husband moved up North for work and we have decided to split for good. Thus I got the bulldogs to help my 6yr old & 10 yr old daughters cope. Like I said, I have always been a homeowner, so now having to be a renter and being told "you can't have pets" is not fun. I don't know how big the "lakeside cabin" is. I need 3 bedrooms. And you said "month-to-month" not lease..... that's kinda scarey. I live in a condo right now. After 2 months they sold the condo and I have to move out! That's when I decided I just need to move up to Florence for a fresh start! I love the dunes and riding quads. I love the 17 freshwater lakes & of course the beaches. I love the deserted beaches where I can take the dogs and not bother anyone. I see you're in Coos Bay. I've been there several times too and have friends from there. It always bothered me that Coos Bay has a porn shop right across the street from the Elementary School!! Coos Bay does have nice dunes though. Do you know how the weather in Coos Bay compares to Florence? Which gets more wind and more rain? Thanks for your info !!! Amanda

well yeah, their cabin definatly wouldnt fit ya'll...its just a little one bedroom...im sorry.
Im sorry about all your losses. These are definatly some tough times for many people. Some, worse than others....
I agree about the porn shop, very terrible to have it there right in front of the school. That makes me ill and angry every single time i see it.
Other than that, i really dearly love living here in Coos Bay. Differences in weather...well, it seems talking to my inlaws, that Florence gets a bit more extreme in weather. My kids have been bummed a few times when grandma send them pictures of it snowing in their yard when we're not even getting hail. lol Theyve had more damage from storms the last few years past too....of course, it could just be areas, living on the coast, im sure you know too that wind damage and all can vary from just around a block or two. Of course, we used to live right on the bay on Cape Arago across from the clam beds, no real shelter from the wind, and that biggie wind storm we all got, what, 2? 3? yrs ago...? well, our worst damage there was losing our garbage can into the neighbors hedge. My inlaws, they lost their carport and the entire gutter system on one side of the house. So hummmmmm....?
Best of luck to you and your kiddos. And the furries. I sure hope you all can stay together!!!!!!
