I'd strike Monmouth from the list...they were dry until a few years ago. Not exactly the mecca for brew pubs there...
Otherwise I think a good list.

Hello! I lived in Brookings, OR for a very long time before moving away. It was a lovely little town.
One place I almost moved to in Oregon before moving east was Florence, OR. It's about 3 hours north of the California border, on the coast. It is also a 45 minute drive from Eugene, so you'd be close by a bigger town. The town is even MORE beautiful than Brookings is (which is saying a lot). Both towns are right by the ocean with some of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen. Both have Mountains and forests galore. They are both roughly the same small size ( 8,000 or so? ) What Florence has that Brookings doesnt, are gorgeous sand dunes! HUGE ones! As well as multiple small lakes and a ton of parks. There is also a very lovely bridge going into town, and a great oldtown/downtown area on the river, under the bridge. Florence seemed much less about retirement as a lot of Oregon towns I had been too, and more stores to shop in.
Well, that's my 2 cents! I hope you find the perfect place for you! Oregon was a GREAT state to live in! I would move back there but I love my white Christmas' too much!

OP, if I were you, I'd put most of my "stuff" into storage & rent for awhile to get a feel... If a job/moving around isn't an issue...
Silverton sounds lovely. I'm in Eugene, which is awesome. Pleasant Hill, Junction City & Lorane are also nice.
Going to the beach from Eug involves highway driving through hilly terrain: not my cup o' tea, esp. at dusk or in the dark, which always seems to be our case coming back.
Yesterday, I saw 6 turkeys crossing the street in front of my yard.

I live in Corvallis now, and your description of yourself sounds like you would fit in here. Corvallis fits most of what you want, and it is pretty here. Most people here love it. and there is a FANTASTIC farmer's market from spring through summer.

Did you find a place? We are again thinking of trying to get to Oregon by January. We may be able to get out of our lease here. We are looking for a smaller cozy place where people actually get to know each other, but a friendly, artistic like place with things close by also. I hope you find the right place. Based on my research ... maybe you should try Astoria? May not be enough to do, but I love that place!! What about Sherwood? Have you looked into that. It's like 19,000 or so I think and not far from Portland ... sounds ok? Good luck!

HI I'm moving back to Oregon from the DC area... I have lived near Portland, but I'm thinking about the Eugene area. I need a little space for 2 horses and the dogs. I don't want to be in town but it would be nice to be withing stalking distance (maybe an hour or two ) from my only child who is a freshman at U of O. visiting Eugene, it looked as though it had some nice nearby small towns. What does everyone think? Have you looked at Veneta and out toward the Mckenzie area?
