Hello, Everyone!
I'm new to this forum and just starting to compile info on prospective relocation towns. I've been looking at Silverton, which was suggested by a real estate agent, but I have a 2 year old and I want to make sure there are decent schools in this area for his future. I've looked at some of the school stats, but they can't really tell me what the schools are actually "like". If anyone has attended the schools in or near Silverton, or had children that attended, I would appreciate your input!! I enjoy small town living and a slower pace, so I was looking at the Williamette Valley, as suggested by some friends. I also work in the healthcare industry so I was hoping there were some nice hospitals and clinics around for potiential employment, within say, a 30 minute or less commute. I'm not familiar with traffic issues there, if there are any, so I don't know how that factors in... Thanks for any info you can give!! ![]() |

Hi, I grew up here, and the schools are decent, kind of crowded though. There is a new high school here, but Ive never been to it. The grade school is quite old and there are talks of closing it down. As far as what the schools are "like"? Im sure its the same as any small town school in America. Smaller class rooms, kids grow up together, play sports, party, then goto college.
We have an award winning hospital, in the top 100 of the nation. the birthing center is amazing. As i said I grew up here, and I still live here, and am now raising a family here. |

Since we're on the subject of schools in Silverton, I have a question or three, myself.
First, the ramble: Where we're moving to (in Silverton) is at the north end of town - what I believe was called "Milltown". Matter of fact, our property borders Mill St on the east and N. 2nd on the west. There is a school on Mill, just north of us - is that the middle school? If so, across the large field to the south and up the hill just east is another school. Which is that? Now, I've read from a few years ago that they actually had two high-school campuses. The old one - and the new one that was approved by a bond but the bond didn't pass to finish it so, classes were split between the two. I'm not sure where the high school is and if there is one or two. (?). Also, on GoogleEarth, it appears there must be one to the west of our location (mentioned above) - across North 2nd, across what must be North 1st - and probably across what used to be (?) railroad tracks - so, is that THE high-school, the other high school campus ... or something else entirely? Also, is that running-track open to public use? Thanks - hope I framed the question(s) well enough. |

Silverton schools are interesting in that they are K-8, with the exception of Eugene Field which feeds into Robert Frost. I don't have kids that go there, but I have a friend whose child goes to Evergreen and she is very happy with the school.
Silverton High, I think is a pretty average high school. Not outstanding, not bad, just average. Silverton Hospital is great. I actually drove from Salem to have my kids delivered there, and it was a great experience. It has a good reputuation. Silverton is a wonderful community. It's about 8,000 people. Sublimity is smaller, about 2,000 people, but it also has an excellent K-8 school. |

Silverton has a very nice hospital, they are in the 100 best hospitals in the country. Also has many doctor offices , I dont think finding a job would be a problem for you.
