K-falls, here we come??? :O
Well, any day now, we will know if my husband has a job down there. If so, I am struggling a bit about where we should live.
I have 2 little kids, so I need a decent elementary school. It seems to me from the state report cards that Roosevelt and maybe Conger are the only city schools that are reasonable, and Shasta is good for the county. (Keno and Merrill rate well also, but they seem to be a bit of a commute.)
Any opinions on this? And not just, "my kid goes to this school and it seems great", but actual factual knowledgeable info on the schools. No offense, but everyone either thinks their own school is the bestest EVER, or that it absolutely sucks. Am I going to have to homeschool?
I have gathered that the Mills area is a NO, and the south suburbs seems to have nice homes, but has mediocre schools and are too near an airport. Running Y is WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY out of our league, but we don't want to live in a trailer park, either. We recently visited K-falls and it looks like a shanty town that is slooooooooowly trying to improve.
I have been looking in the Roosevelt school area, and the area around the skate park. Any info on this area?
Another option I have house-wise is on Riverside, but I know we drove down that desolate road and the people standing in their "yards" seemed a little scary, like Children of the Corn-type scary.
And what are the good churches--thriving, youthful, good music, good community, decent preacher that doesn't ramble as long as this post does...
Anything you can tell me more specifically about K-falls would be great...

LOL
Why do I want to predict an unsatisfactory experience in the offing?
As far as Kingsley Field goes, I'm sure you'll be thrilled to know that the Air National Guard unit will soon be returning with their F-15 fighters to take up residence.

I have only heard bad things of K-Falls for the last 18 years I lived in Oregon. Never went there ,but my folks did and told me it was a place they enjoyed leaving. Its got a big problem with blue collar crime and meth labs are prevalent throughout the town. Its like a poorer, higher crime version of Medford.

I lived there for 7 years and loved it. Skiing, fishing, biking, hiking... The schools were excellent, many houses (like ours) have yards that are about 1 acre in size. Yes, it's a rusty, dusty, lusty town, but that area is as good a place for raising kids as one can imagine.

Myself, if I went back with kids, I'd go to Keno. Beautiful area. Just above it are homesteads with good acerage. The commute is short. It's very small, but wholesome.

I'd cast a second vote for Keno, although the social opportunities for kids are limited.
Other than that, Keno has a decent variety store, a library branch, school, and The Whoa Tavern is available for a game of pool and a beer.
There have been a few decently priced real estate opportunities in and around Keno over the last month or so, and the 20-minute commute isn't overwhelming.
On the other hand, there are some decent neighbourhoods right in Klamath. Just depends how urban you want to get.

When your city is compared unfavorably to Methford, you know you're in trouble. Yeah, the place is a dump. Good luck, OP.

I've been offered a travel nurse job there, too, but don't think I'll take it. Good luck to you. We all create our own realities! Just remember that! I think the beautiful nature is enough to possibly make it a great experience.

I wouldn't pay much attention to bashing from people who have either never even visited or haven't lived in the area. I haven't responded to the OP because I live outside of town and am not familiar with the in-town areas or the individual school districts, so I can't be much help there.
Klamath Falls is a small agricultural-based rural town, with the expected amenities (with a surprise or two, like the Ross Ragland Theater). It's not urban, it's not particularly sophisticated and it does have the same level of meth problem that all of Oregon's (and probably the US's) small, rural, relatively high-unemployment towns have. Anything else is pure exaggeration.
