Default Writer looking for a home in La Pine

Hello,

I currently live in Portland and am considering moving to a place in La Pine. The place I am considering is on 14,xxx Laurel Rd. 97739.

I was hoping someone could tell me about this area. I am a writer (late 20's) and thus looking for a fairly quiet and inspirational area. I would love to be near hiking trails, mountains, etc. Also, does La Pine have a downtown area - or do people mostly just go to Bend when they want to socialize?

Any information about the area is appreciated.

Thanks!

I live in Bend (as far south as you can get)
I am a block away from the Deschutes River.... and my early 3 mile morning walk I go through 2 miles of forest (it is GREAT)

It does take about 30 minutes to get to the south shopping part of Bend (Walmart) from me and about 40 minutes to get to the north side of Bend (Home Depot).

Looking at Laurel Rd. 97739 I am thinking that is going to add 15-20 minutes onto that.

Social events for a 20's year old...... Yea you will want to go to bend.... Downtown is AWESOME in Bend (I think of it as a super mini tiny little small portland) It is old and has allot of character! and then there is the old mill district, it is new and very nice.... but a little too much of a tourist trap for me.

La Pine does have shopping..... But it is going to be nothing like you are use to... There are 2 grocery stores, Ace hardware/lumber yard, auto parts, bi-mart, les schwab, probably 20 restaurants, taco bell, mcdonalds, dairy queen etc

The lots are big 1/2+ acre.... lots of trees so you will/should have a feeling of seclusion.

Good Luck to ya

Laurel Road is west of "downtown" La Pine, in a nice wooded area. I've never been there, but that's what it looks like on Google Earth. There really is no downtown; I97 runs right through town and most businesses are along this small stretch.
As for nightlife... most everything closes by 9 pm. The La Pine Inn serves food and drink, has a pool table and lottery machines. I'm sure there is a tad bit more for a 20 something to do around here, but being WELL past that age I can't help overly much.
La Pine is a nice quiet place to live. We're very close to the mountains and hiking and water fun.
And, right now we have about an inch of fresh snow on the ground, with more on the way.
Hope that helps.
