Default Sandy, OR

Does anyone know anything about the Sandy, OR or Gresham, OR area? I live in TX, near Austin currently and we are looking to relocate within the next few years out there. (to escape the humidity and get back to the lovely rain!) We want to live inbetween Mt. Hood and Portland in order to get the best of both worlds, mountain and city. I am a bit concerned about the crime rate statistics for Gresham.

I know people who live in Gresham who are currently trying like mad to sell their home cuz they want out. unfortunatly, even with rising house prices, they arent able to get out of it what all they put into it at this point because the area they are in has depriciated so much. Used to be a lovely little neighborhood, now, looks rather like a ghetto. They are one of 3 on their block that speak english. Im sure there are nice places in Gresham, but theyre getting further and further between.
Sandy, i havent been there in a few years, but it used to be a beautiful little town, not too big and tons of people going through it especially during ski season. Do have some friends on the outskirts w/some property and they love it. Definatly has some incredible scenery, just prepare for the snow.
