Default Question for people who leave Oregon in winter.

Just curious about something...although I wonder if anyone reading would have knowledge or experience of this. I may need to post in a different type of forum. But, here goes:

Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of the idea of pulling a child out of elementary school for six to eight weeks during the school year (and homeschool during that time).? I'm sure there must be families who do this for one reason or another.

I'm asking because being able to do so would allow me to continue living in Portland. I am on the verge of moving away due to the dark months. But the idea occurred to me that if I left for six to eight weeks (perhaps departing when X-mas break begins and returning several weeks later) would allow me to stay.

I am a single parent of a 3rd-grader. I would likely live in Texas during those dark months. I feel like I practically homeschool him now as it is due to so little one-on-one attention in school. I don't know if the school would support this or not. But for my own well being and sanity, it would be the only way I could see myself staying.

My son would handle it really well, I believe. He adjusts to change better than I do!

Any thoughts or, by chance, experience with my idea??
