Question Questions about Albany, Jefferson, Lebanon and Sweet Home

I received a job offer in Albany and my wife and I are going shopping for homes in that area in 2 weeks.

Someone told me that Sweet Home and Lebanon have gang issues? Is this true and how severe? Spraypainting? Shooting? lots of fighting? In other words like gangs are like in California where I live!

I also noticed that Jefferson is a small town and that the demographics are different than Albany in terms of ethnicity. Is Jefferson a more ag based population and that is why the hispanic population is higher in Jefferson than Albany? (before anyone says anything about racism, my wife is Hispanic. I simply wanted to know about demographics)

Is Jefferson a nice, quiet town?

Logan's Dad,
I think you'll find that Jefferson is overall less expensive than Albany, and there is a growing Hispanic community in both cities. I know for example that at our church there are over 300 hispanic families actively involved...and that is a number that has continued to grow from year to year. (I live in Albany).

There are folks who have moved to Jefferson and commute to either Salem or Albany, the same thing is happening in Millersburg which is just down the road from Jefferson (and has better I-5 access) as Salem continues to become less affordable.

I can't speak to the Sweet Home and Lebanon gang issues, although I would be skeptical that there is a huge problem from the people that I know and have talked to. Similarly in Albany, there is a reputation that is likely based in fact, but isn't as "dramatic" as some statistics would have you believe.

Depending on what price range you are interested in, and what type of home you are looking for, I'd be happy to offer you my advice on housing here in our area.

All the best

Dave

good heavens, is SweetHome big enough to actually have gang problems???
when my grandparents lived there, it was about small and quiet enough that everyone knew darn well what everyone else was doing (which really ruined a few of my "good ideas" as a kid. lol)

Arrow Lebanon & Sweet Home

Hi

I live here in Lebanon and I'm really familiar with Sweet Home... I have NOT seen anything that had to do with gangs in either town. We are the owners of 5 businesses here and we have not had any issues with the community.

Please check out our area and decide for your self...
