The Nye Beach Historical District of Newport is undergoing a transformation. New interest has brought to light the beauty of the area and it's potential. New businesses are moving in, new condos are being built, and consequently, the crime is dwindling.
This was a low income area for many years but now the baby-boomers are moving in and the real estate prices are climing rapidly.
As property owners in the Nye Beach area we've experienced a tremendous change for the better just within the last few years and it continues to improve.
Nye Beach is a great investment...our property has more than doubled in value...within the last 2 years. Good luck!

Default Nye Beach Information

It's amazing how many contribute when they don't even know a specific area! I am in Newport daily and live 7 miles away. The specific area on 6th you are talking about is fine (IMHO) unless you go East of NW Nye St. Stay West of there, the further West, the better. There is an apartment complex on Nye and 6th that you don't want to be near. I wouldn't call anywhere around there 'high crime'...there are just drugs and homeless issues to deal with. Just so you know, If it is much to the East, this may be a little out of what is considered by locals as "Nye Beach" so that may affect resale. The prime Nye Beach is to the South and West.
Fear of Tsunami's don't effect real estate sales apparently since most of the country is down right now and Newport is still doing fine with sales. Also, due West (ocean side) of the the area you mention is protected by about the highest cliffs in the Newport area. If you were hit there, all of Newport would have serious problems. I do fear for those poor fools who have places built far out on spits and near sea level peninsulas. (Waldport area and Salishan)
Anyway, If anyone needs more specific info about Newport, let me know...

I used to live there and loved every second of it. Any crime comes from a rather high transient population at times of the year. But, don't leave things out at night, keep cars & house locked... and you'll be fine.
