considering buying in the Nye Beach area. One poster has said that certain areas around there are bad crime zones? I believe the home we are looking at is on NW 6th couple of blocks north of olive. Anyone or locals have any insight for us? thank you in advance

Default Hey

There are NO bad areas in Newport. Have you ever visited Newport! There is no such thing as bad areas.

Don't forget about making an investment in a tsunami zone. Just a thought.

Just since the Good Friday quake in 1964. Only 4 people died in Newport, so maybe that doesn't affect your real estate choices.

Don't let anyone kid you. There ARE bad areas in Newport and every other town, anywhere. Oregon has one of the highest rates of drug traffic and as for alcohol use they are 4th on the list. I am an older person....past 50 ,and I was born and raised here.

Every 300 or so years, the Oregon coast gets creamed by a mega Tsunami like the one which hit South Asia 2yrs ago.....The last big one on the OR coast was around 1700....Just carry a rapidly inflatable life raft with you everywhere you go and you should be okay..........More seriously, I personally know of a seismologist who works for a Govt agency..Soon after the S Asian Quake & Tsunami, they discovered an almost indenticle fault line just off the PNW coast...so close to the coast that when it goes the Tsunami will hit the coast within minutes giving little time for escape....Because of this, his family sold their beach front dream house and relocated to higher ground several miles inland..;..He personally feels that the coast is a diaster waiting to happen as it's overdue for a major quake & Tsunami .....
