Default Any info on Roseburg, Green or Winston?

Hi, I am a married 28 year old with a 10 month old boy looking to relocate to Roseburg area. I currently live in Sonoma County Calif. We are looking for a somewhat slower lifestyle, but affordable new home prices. Our interests are golfing, shopping, family activities. Are these available in the area? I would love to hear from people who live in this area as well as people that have traveled through. We are concerned about job availability. That is one of our main concerns. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's predomanantly a retirement community. Expensive to live in and low wages. At least it was the last time I was there in the mid 90s.

Thanks MapFreak! Do you by any chance know anything about Monmouth? We have also looked into this town, but I would love to hear from someone that has been there. Thanks!

Default Monmouth?

Monmouth has one industry, a University that specializes in teaching. Unless you're planning on becoming a professor or a college student, I don't see why you want to live there. What kind of city are you looking for? What kind of jobs are you qualified to work in? It sounds like you want a smaller town that is close enough to a larger city. Perhaps Redmond or Prineville over in Central Oregon, where it is sunny 290 days of the year. Grants Pass is a nice town, near Medford. You also might want to look at Albany, Newport, or McMinneville, which are located in the northwest corner of the state.

In response to the comment about Bend/Redmond haveing 290 days of sun. Don't believe everything you are told about the weather here!! The Bend chamber of commerce puts out this garbage and it isn't true!! In fact someone checked this out this past year and found out that they count a day when the sun may peek out from a cloud for a second or two as being a sun day! They do this so they can entice the tourists to come.

I've lived here over 50 years and know that it can get grey, cold and down right miserable at times.

Default I lived there too

I used to live in Central Oregon. I had to move to Eugene for a job. Compared to Eugene, Redmond has perfect weather! I have never lived anywhere that had better weather than Redmond. I liked the snow in the winter and the sun in the summer.

Default Info on Roseburg

[quote=Nikkitay;45767]Hi, I am a married 28 year old with a 10 month old boy looking to relocate to Roseburg area.

Folks, up on the right it says "search this forum". Enter Roseburg and get a load of all that comes up. I think I started a couple of threads looking for info - and there's a wealth here. Looks like a great area. Rocky

I lived in Monmouth (and Independence) and currently live in Roseburg. I was also born and raised in California! Monmouth is a wonderful town to raise a family. You would be 20 minutes from Salem, where there are many job opportunities. Monmouth is a quiet town, where those who live there year round know each other. It is a nice change from CA. (too many people living in the fast lane) with the luxury of all the stores and restaurants that you'd be used to. Roseburg is another story! Rosburg has the retirees from CA. that lived the average life, sold their house and came here to live the life of luxury. Our 4 bdrm, 3 bath house in Pleasanton sold for $700,000. I could buy a mansion for here for $700,000!! Or at least a whole lot of land! They have new subdivisions where the starting price is $170,000. Roseburg really doesn't have a middle income family. They tend to be poor or wealthy. There is also a lot of drugs and homelessness. It was quite the rude awakening. Now that I am here, I have made connections and realize God put me here for a reason, but I would choose the Monmouth/Independence area in a heart beat! Also, check out Dallas, Oregon-right next door to Monmouth.

New people are coming across this board all of the time. It's the first time I've visited this discussion of Roseburg. And the old - as well as the more recent - postings provide a lot of needed information.
