Question Salem-area Rentals? Nearby areas?

Hello,
My family (3 humans and 1 big, goofy dog) is planning a possible move to the Salem area. Hubby is looking at a job with the Dept. of Corrections there and we would need somewhere within a commutable distance for him. Any suggestions? I spent many years in Eugene, but never ventured up to Salem, so know very little about the area up there. Where we live now, (KS), hubby commutes 30 miles to work, so we'd like to keep it under that distance, if possible.
Does anyone know where we could start looking for area rentals? The Salem newspaper didn't seem to have much listed, but maybe I searched wrong or something. What about surrounding communities? Any thoughts on finding rentals? What towns would you suggest?
Thanks in advance,
Shari

You might want to look a little south; Millersburg, Albany, Jefferson...all offer easy I-5 access and a fairly short commute with housing prices (and rentals too I'm sure) a bit more affordable than Salem. I have friends who work in Salem and commute from Millersburg (15 - 20 minutes max).

You can check the classifieds online (Albany Democrat-Herald) for rentals. (That is the Albany Democrat-Herald...

All the best
