Default Relocating some where on the coast....

Hi everyone, I live in the S.F. Bay area and want to get out of here, My husband is an electrician and I stay home with our 2 children(ages 7 & 4). Life here is good, but the price of living is just crazy and the air pollution is gross. We have always wanted to live on the ocean. But no chance of that here. Our home price range would be around 500K. We are very into outdoor recreation and photography. Anyone have any suggestions for a coastal town? I liked Cannon Beach and the surrounding area. Thanks in advance.

Cannon Beach is very nice but it's much better for retired people who don't need to earn a living. It is small, more expensive than most areas on the coast and it won't have any jobs.

If I were you I'd look at some places that have a larger population or are near somewhat larger cities. The Newport area is worth taking a look at or the Coos Bay/North Bend area. You may even consider somewhere around Astoria if you like the north coast. Good luck with finding a new home.

I forgot to mention Seaside. It's only about 8 miles north of Cannn Beach. Seaside has about a population of 7000 with a combination of young and old. There is a large sandy beach there. Lots of college kids go there for spring break time. Again it'll be a bit on the expensive side with prices $300,000 plus but it's a place that younger people would enjoy.

Thanks for the info Waterlily, is it true these areas we talked about get lots of rain/cloudy weather? Everyone here seems to think Oregon is always gray or raining. What is the scoop?

Most of the time the farther north you go the more rain you'll get on the coast. If you go inland you'll get less rain. The Seaside area gets about 90 inches of rain per year which is a lot. Here in the Coos Bay/North Bend area it's around 64 inches per year.
It'll be gloomy from late November until very late springtime. it's not always raining though. The somewhat sandy soil soaks up the rain so there's not a lot of puddles.

personally, i really like the Lincoln City/Newport area. Or if you can find a place, and dont mind a bit of a commute if you find a job LC/Newport, then I just adore Depoe Bay! - LC is growing tremendously and very very fast. Housing prices are rising quickly, but so are many new buisnesses. Might be worth looking into.
- Astoria is fairly close to Seaside and I hear it has started growing recently. Also something about making it a port town for some of the large cruise ships? Or has that already happened? - anyhow, I live on the south coast, and have to admit, even with the rain, I like the northern Ore. coast more! Go figure. lol
Good luck w/your search!
Tiff

Hi waterlily, 90 inches of rain I would die from depression. I am spoiled here in Morgan Hill Ca. We get about 14 inches of rain per year. Although we had about 13 inches just this past march & April, really weird weather this year. Well the rain/clouds are definatly something to consider.Hmmm....
Thanks for the great info
