Default Oregon Coast Astoria Warrenton Seaside Cannon Beach Diversity

Hi

How would a "brown person" fare in Oregon Coast towns like Tillamook, Seaside, Cannon Beach, Astoria, Warrenton, Newport etc?

What I specifically mean by a "brown person" is : Somewhat dark but not black. would pass for Hispanic, South Italian, Greek or Middle Eastern etc. Foreign born with a "foreign sounding" name. College degree and good English.

I have heard that people in smaller towns are usually less tolerant towards outsiders whether you are white or non white, but more so towards non whites. Is this generally true?

I haven't had any issues in other towns so far, but I have never lived in such small places either. Most of the places I have lived have been metro areas with over 200,000 people.

I have read many posts in this forum suggesting that Oregon (outside of Portland) generally does not have a good reputation regarding tolerance towards minorities.

I would probably work in an office environment where there is very little customer contact inside of town (most customer contact would be in the Portland metro area where I would travel regularly).

I know there are a small percentage of intolerant people everywhere and I also know that most people don't care as long as you follow the laws and mind your own business, but I don't want to move to a place where I would feel totally out of place...

I don't think you'll have any problem wrt color related diversity.

What you'll find at the coast is 4 primary categories:

Tourists (6 months)
Local retirees
Second home go-ers from the valley
Everyone else

It depends.
Exactly what color brown are we talking about?

Are you:

Or:

Or closer to one of these shades?

Maybe a nice burnt sienna?

But seriously, I hear Seaside has many Hispanic people that you may be able to 'blend in' with...unfortunately they also have a rather high crime rate it seems.
