Dreams44, Thank you for your feedback! And for breaking down the areas so well. I am printing out all your info, and yours too DSH1127, thank you as well for the school information. My son is grown, (I homeschooled and highly recommend it to anyone). And from that I have learned DSH that success comes from confidence and the right inner motivation not degrees or where they are from!
Your life in Grants Pass sounds just what I want for my family. We are moving to Medford in 7 weeks. Do any of you think my adult son and I have any chance of finding employment if we are willing to do most anything/?
Thanks again to you all!
Cyan
You have all been very helpful!

Cyan - Here is an early welcome to Southern Oregon ! It isn't the best time to be job hunting, but I still believe if you are willing to work, you will find something. There is alot of area within an hour of Medford that you can look, if you are willing to travel. Thanks for your insight on the school issue! I have alot of friends that home school their kids. I stayed home with mine for six years, then went back to work. I am not sure I would have the patience to home school my kids ! What type of work would both of you be leaning towards?

Great 4 seasons, great activities on the rivers, lakes, and mountains, 2 hrs. from the coast, and lots of friendlly people.
Check in at the local Homebuilders when you get here and we'll hook you up with the local trends (land, building, licensing etc...).

Freedom,
How does the State treat builders with regards to taxes? Down here is California everyone has their hand out at the State level and quite a few builders have moved or gone out of business. Your area does sound wonderful!

Thank you so very much DSH! That is our first welcome! And your positivity was just the boost I needed today!
My son wants to either fix computers, do stock work or work in a game or PC shop. And I would enjoy admin, receptionist or restaurant work. We are both down to earth and are willing to do what is necessary.
Yes it does take a lot of patience to homeschool and well done to you for the time you were able to spend doing it. They say our futures are set by the time we are 6 years old, that we are who we will be. And to some degree I suppose that is right. So the love we give our children hopefully will prepare them for life in the world....I am sure you have done a great job.
I know that getting my son to Oregon is the right thing to do for his future. And thank you again so much for your positivity.....It was much appreciated!
Regards,
Cyan

well mike, grants pass and surrounding area is beautiful and its nice driving down the smith river to the coast. i live in roseburg and would'nt recommend it. too foggy all the time. spent some time in Perth a few years back and did a little bricky work there. enjoyed the people and the beer (VB) was my favorite. you will miss the meat pies but ive had good luck making my own. you might want to even look at central oregon, bit pricey but there seems to be alot of aussies there. good luck either way mate Rick

cyan: Yes I do think you and your adult son can find work. The economy is way down, just as it is everywhere, but there is work out there. There are also temp agencies that you can sign up with.

mike:
There is nothing like being in the area and seeing how it feels to you.
Grants Pass is beautiful, so is the coast, so is outside of Medford, so is Ashland
and there are many small towns in between.
So many people really like the hills outside of Talent and Phoenix, between, Medford and Ashland. Or up past Medford, on Hwy 62 up to Eagle Point, Shady Cove, Trail, Prospect.
Or past Medford, turn on I-5 onto Gold Hill exit, there is even more beautiful country up there.
Between Gold Hill and Grants Pass, is the small city of Rogue River.
Lots to choose from.
Good luck.

Me too
I too have decided on Grants Pass, will be moving from MO at end of summer after settlement of auto accident and possibly receiving disability also. Im coming from the Ozark hills, me, my dog, my laptop and few possessions and some moolah. I've researched and researched and researched and this is where Ima headed. So hit me with your best shot concerning pros and cons, and thanks for any advice, info, etc. Have a Happy Easter for those that celebrate it. Don't mean to hijack thread, just didn't want to start a new one with all the others ones going on concerning this area. Thanks for having me, folks, greatly appreciated

Well, we are finally coming to Oregon! Can't believe it. I have hated living in So California so much anything would be better!
We are going to start out in Medford. As we think there might be more jobs on offer. Only need a couple of part time jobs as my husband is staying in So Cali to work till we get sorted. Poor man!
I guess my only question now is , are there any areas in Medford that are safer than others? Where should we head to? There are several Motels any suggestions? We have a doggie with us.
Will people throw rocks at our car with Cali liscence plates?
Any other last minute tips.
Thank you all for your help. You made the difference for us!
