Hello,

Can anyone provide information on healthcare and its cost in Oregon, as well as the general cost of living expenses? How do these issues rate compared to other states? Does the state offer its own healthcare coverage that can be bought? Are overall taxes in Oregon as high as some folks make them out to be - besides the zero sales tax?

Any info on these issues would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

CNN has a cost of living calculator that gives you an idea of how far your salary will go. Cost of living: Compare prices in two cities - CNNMoney.com
It just gives you an overall idea.

You can buy private health insurance from Regence or PacificSource. You can go to Regence online and get a quote. http://www.regence.com/individual/medical/index.jsp
Heathcare rates really depend on many factors so it's probably best to just pop online and answer the questions. It'll give you a much better ballpark than we can here.

Income tax is 9%, unless you are in the $250,000 (joint) income range, then it is more. Property taxes are varied, but run from about 1.5-3% of the assessed value of the property. We don't have any sales tax.
