I would continue, but I have to get back to my relocation search. I say come one, come all. That'll open up a spot for me somewhere where people actually have personalities and some ambition to progress.[/quote]
Thanks for your insight...just beware of East Texas if your search takes you there...you don't know hell until you live in Dante's 10th ring...called East Texas! |

By 'snotty out-of-towners with cash to throw around' I'm assuming you are referring to Californians. I'm an out-of-towner and don't have cash that I can just throw around. I agree the rentals are crap and almost no one will rent out a place that accepts pets which I find weird being that Klamath Falls is in the middle of no where. ![]() I honestly have never heard the former Merle West being called 'Murder West'. Where these little nicknames in Southern Oregon come from, I'll never know. You got Medford being called 'Methford' and Merle West being called 'Murder West'. Even with the name change, it's still a small hospital but looks more like a hotel now, but to continue on with the nickname of the hospital, that is just ridiculous because Klamath Falls doesn't have a large number of murders (even the years that there is a murder). I think the kids who wish the town is crime infested made the name up. I do agree that Klamath Falls is a hell hole. It has nothing to offer and over charges cost of living. Unless you have a nice home, Klamath Falls won't offer you anything. Jobs are hard to get. Even temp agencies usually don't have anything. The only jobs available are in the medical field. |

You won't find anywhere in the PNW that takes religion as seriously as the South. Only about 1/3 of the population of Oregon claims affiliation with any church, and many of those don't actually attend services except for weddings and funerals. Oregon has the distinction of being the least churched state in the union, even with all the immigrants moving in.

Wear insect repellent. A good dose of Deet will keep the ticks at bay.

Yes, some Oregon state liquour stores are open on Sundays, and have been for several years. Problem is, it is the choice of the store, so it is hit or miss.
As for KF, I've always had the feeling that even though it isn't that far from the Pacific, and is still considered "western Oregon", it really has a much more "inland" feel...like it really should be in Idaho or Wyoming. Conservative, rather dry, and a general "cowboy" feel. Just an opinion from a few visits...perhaps if I lived there I would feel differently. |

That's funny, that's exactly what I think about Las Vegas having been born and raised there. I left at 17 the first chance I got, and look at how people love that place 20 years later. Even my family, from Montana and Wyoming. I guess everyone wants a change at some point, which seems healthy. I met a samoan on her way to "any freezing, icy state I can find...I want snow...so sick of tropical."

If you change the way you look at things,
The things you look at will change! We moved here over 20 years ago and consider the move the best thing to have ever happened to us. This is definately not the location for the 'party hardy' crowd. For us, that is a good thing. If you are party animals, you need to go west of the Cascades; I'd say nothing south of Eugene. If you like the outdoors, fishing or hunting, you have found one of the finer places to live. We have had only two severe winters in the 23 years we have lived here. It went down to -19* in Feb '88 and we had over 120" of snow in the '90-'91 winter. The rest of the time the winters are not nearly that severe. Frost in June is very common. Saying goes, "never plant your garden until after June 15th. Just a few years ago, Klamath County had 22% earning under the poverty level. Average income here is probably still about 20% under the state average. Property values have soared over the past 3-4 years. Much like many places in the US. Prices here seem to have stagnated and we are developing a very high inventory at the moment. Places like Portland are still rising. Foreclosures here are significantly up. REO's are well above average and forecast to continue to rise through the better part of next year. [depending on who you want to believe]. Rumor has it that Costco is going to open a facility at the junction of hwy 97 and state route 66. That should seriously cut down on the number of trips we make to Medford. When we moved here we felt that 'what the heck, if we don't like it, we can always move'. |

its not as bad as you think. i am from southern california and have been here for the past 12 years.. i have 3 kids and it is a great place to raise them.. there is not a real night life except for 2 so called night clubs. as of the tattoo thing i have 46 tattoos and there is a tattoo shop in town(only one). steel sensations which is located on the main street in klamath falls(south 6th street). i dont get to many looks in the summer when i show off all my tattoos.it is a conservative place but most dont act it. people just are people here. we do have our crack heads but so does every town or city in the world....so if you are thinking of moving to klamath falls its not as bad as you think. during the summers it rarely gets above 90 and winter is beautiful and cold.....
