Default Grants Pass- bankrupt?

We were thinking about moving to the Grants Pass area, and after looking at property on -line we called our inlaws who live in Oregon. They really told us terrible things and basically NOT to consider that entire Grants Pass area due to some kind of money troubles due to the lost timber industry.

Whats the deal with this?
Thanks for any info.

Lots of counties had been getting Gov. money to help support the cut backs in the timber industry. That's way I understand it anyway.

Now the Gov. has approved only one more year of this money. They thought they wouldn't get it at all so this is better than nothing. Jackson county closed their libraries to cut costs. I'm not sure what all they've done in Grants Pass but there was talk about cutting down the Sheriffs. There was talk about cutting down on the jail. I don't know if they've done anything yet.

I'm in Grants Pass right now visiting. Let me say, I'm not impressed. There are lots of trashy & run down areas. I've taken it off our list.
We did find a nice RV resort on the R. River. We will be moving on tormorrow to check out Roseburg.
