For the past year or two I've noticed a lot of exterior shots of Portland standing in for Boston in this TNT tv show - it's excellent, btw. I'm not sure if they're still filming in Portland or not, tho.

Don't forget Short Circuit which had the "number 5" talking robot, and starred both Ally Sheedy and Steve Guttenberg. When that came out in 1986, it was a big hit.

Also, The Shining with Jack Nicholson, was filmed in a few parts at Timberline Lodge up on Mt. Hood. The movie though made it look like a lodge in Colorado.

Lastly, there was a Nightmare on Elm Street movie--the one that had Corey Feldman in it, which I was told was filmed somewhere near Estacada.

The burned train from "The General" in 1923 was viewable until recently. I worked on Coraline, and know they're working on a new film now. There was also one movie with Seth Green, Ashton Kruschner (SP?) that isn't on the list which was filmed up on the Deschutes River.

Not movies, but I was working at OHSU when the pilot for ER was filmed in the emergency room there. The set for the first couple of seasons was a virtual duplicate of the OHSU ER.

The current TV series "Life Unexpected" is set in Portland, though I don't think it is filmed there.

I can't believe none of you mentioned any of Gus Van Sant's films, many of which are filmed all or in part in Portland. Just listing feature films, there's Mala Noche, Drugstore Cowboy, My Own Private Idaho, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, Elephant, Paranoid Park, and the upcoming Restless.
