Hi All,

I am going to Haines City/Orlando next Friday for an interview and am planning to spend Saturday and part of Sunday to tour the area. This will be my first time in FL. Does anyone have any suggestions about where to go for a someone in his mid 20's? Where is the best/nearest beach?

Thanks!

I like Cocoa Beach on the east coast, which is only about 50 minutes from downtown Orlando, but if you want the best beaches make the drive over to St. Pete Beach or Clearwater. Those are the closest west coast beaches, but the drive is about 1.5 hours each way from Orlando.

If you want nightlife, on Saturday night head to downtown Orlando. Just go down there, find a parking space near the intersection of Orange Ave and Central and walk around...there are loads of places. Check out Wall St and Church St. Have dinner at Ceviche...it is above average for price, but the atmosphere there is awesome. If you can, stay in the Embassy Suites downtown, which is within walking distance to all the bars and also across from Lake Eola which is nice.

If you are into theme parks, hit up Universal Orlando and go to both parks.

If you want to see a unique, high-class shopping area with a lot of cafes and restaurants, check out Park Ave in Winter Park by day or night.

Ditto on New Smyrna or Cocoa Beach. Daytona Beach is always interesting as well...

I like Cocoa because you're allowed to drink on the beach as long as it's not in glass.
