I have noticed that there were a few counties that have organizations for free school supply's. I was wondering is Seminole county had something like this? Winter Park area. These lists get bigger and bigger every year and there are a lot of parents that just can not afford it all plus school cloths and such. Anyone know of anywhere? Not just for me, but for other parents out there.

Buy the school clothes off ebay for pennies on the dollar and shop the sales for school supplies. Very doable for around $50 a kid total plus a $30 pair of sneakers on sale from Kohl's.

What neighborhood do you live in? I know in some of the poor communities there are organizations for this through nonprofits and/or churches.
If you live in Pine Hills for example there is the Earl Nobles Family Center

Well aside from not thinking the OP can afford $80 a child after their post regarding a bicycle and this one there are much cheaper shoes you can get than $30.
If you are purchasing you can get a lot of school supplies from dollar stores - things like backpacks and paper and pens, clothing from Salvation Army Store, Good Will, or dozens of other stores. Sneakers if you don't see in the thrift stores head to either Flea World or Pay Less.
Ebay can work but if OP is really under a lot of hardship I don't know if they have the credit line or internet readily accessible to use Ebay.

They had the Internet available to post looking for handouts.
Maybe I'm jaded, but to be honest, there are too many people with screwed up priorities who have a ton of cable channels and wide screen TV's from RAC, but then cry poverty when it comes to buying their kids clothes, school supplies, etc. I know of a couple who regularlly get food from a food pantry yet smoke three packs a day between them. There's just something really wrong with that in my opinion.

Same idea, $10 for shoes at Payless, $15 for school supplies at the Dollar Store (although I saw a great sale at Office Max the other day with a lot of items priced at $.25 and under), and $10 for clothes at a thrift store.
And you don't need a credit card to use Ebay, all you need is a Paypal account, and that can be set up for free with any bank account as the funding source.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but the OP posted in another thread about which beach should they go to. How are you getting to the beach when you don't have a way to get your child to school or school supplies?
We've already made 2 or 3 trips to Wal-mart for school supplies. Once for the school's list and the second time for the teacher's list. That isn't counting new sneakers for almost $40.00. (Luckily he can still wear his summer clothes for now). We're done paying for cheap Wal-mart shoes as they just fall apart to soon. Be observant if you're buying school supplies from the "W" as they will put the more expensive items up front grouped in a big display. We needed (among many other things) five composition notebooks (this is for 3rd grade)! The main display had the $2.50/piece ones laid out but as I looked further back through the aisles found ones for .25/piece. They try to be sneaky!
I know it's frustrating all you have to buy for school nowadays - whatever happened to showing up with a pencil, notebook and some paper?!? But I keep telling myself that if we can spend X amount on other (usually not needed) things, then we most certainly can fork it over for our child's education.

Friend Walgreens on Facebook and get a 15% off coupon. TODAY (8/4) is the last day. Get the circular and cut out the store coupons.
Go to the websites for OfficeMax, Office Depot, Staples, etc. and search the sales. You can either take those circulars to Walmart or Target to price match (if they happen to have the same item/size in stock, which is unlikely) or go to those stores directly.

Let me explain my situation here. This is my husbands account, I just use it because I have not made my own yet.
Me and my family moved here from Ohio about a month and a half ago. My husband has an associates degree which he received in 2001, I believe. When he finished college in Ohio there were no drafting jobs to be found. He worked at Wal-Mart for a few years just to put food on the table until he could use his college degree. After a few years, he finally found a drafting job making 13 something an hour. Not much, but a drafting job, what he went to college for and was much better then working for 8.75 an hour at Wal-Mart.
No health insurance, but still, he was getting paid alright and we were surviving. Finally one day, without notice he was called in the office and was laid off. NOT fired, but laid off. A company from Russia bought out the steel mill where he did drafting and he was one of the first of many groups to go. We were devastated BUT we still was doing it on our own as best as we could.
At that point, I was going through MAJOR health issues, which made it hard for me to work. I had about 5 surgeries within about three months. I was laid up for a long long time. We lived on unemployment as much as possible because he was making more in unemployment then any job out there in Ohio. Even when he was laid off, it was the beginning of the school year and we still was able to get our child the supply's that he needed for school which cost $175 dollars give or take just for the list itself.
We used our savings to buy school clothes and shoes and book bag. Everything he needed, he got by us. That is our job, that is what we do as parents.
Let's fast forward til about almost a year ago. Unemployment ran out so finally he found a job at Advance America, the payday loan place in Ohio. His salary was $8.75 an hour, and he was not getting full time hours. But that was it in Ohio for us, nothing else was available. Ohio is a very bad area, especially where at in Ohio where we lived.
Our friend in Florida told us that there are better jobs here, so we really made a big decision to leave our home of 29 years (we are both 29 years), our family's, our friends, everything we know and love. We attempted to have my husband apply for jobs here in Florida and fly down for interviews, and tried that at one point and was called the next day and said they were not interested when he was told they were accepting 15 positions. We decided to just come because we have no money there besides alittle in savings and we could NOT make it there anymore on 8.75 an hour.
We got here and my husband had an interview the first week we were here, but did not start work until last Monday. So we have been sitting here living off of what we have in the bank, selling things off just to feed our kids and pay our bills. No insurance, no food assistance, no cash assistance. A friend is helping as much as he can money wise, but that is it. I am going to school online to better our situation, so I need my internet so I can finish. I have about 6 more classes to go and I NEED to finish.
We do not smoke nor drink. We do not buy things for ourselves and what we have goes to our children. They eat before we do. Sure, as we were waiting for my husband to start his job he was hired for over a month ago, we went to the beach a few times so my kids can experience the beach, which is no big deal. My kids deserve that after this major change in their life of leaving their grandparents that they are very close too, leaving their aunts and uncles and cousins. THEY deserved that fun. It is not like we went to disney or sea world, we went to the beach.
At this point in our lives until he starts to get paid and we get caught up on bills, I am looking for a little help from organizations that are there to help people like us. People who are not just wanting to sit around and not do anything for a living but live off of others. I have always paid my child's way through school when it comes to supply's, cloths, shoes, winter coats, book bags and even have given other children in need extra supply's.
Why? Because I am his mom. But at this point we are struggling. We just moved here and sometimes life does not go as planned and things happen and it is out of our control. THIS is out of our control. I did post about bikes also because in Ohio, we lived 5 blocks from school and they still bussed the kids. It was a shock that they didn't and I just did not know how I was going to do this with my 3 year old.
I always give back when I am able to. We are not bums nor lazy people. We are just people that are in need. My kids have always been fed by me and their father, clothed by me and their father and taken care of by me and their father. Sometimes you need to ask for help and not be ashamed. This is a very hard time in our lives, but it can only go up from here. We moved here for a better opportunity, and we are getting it, just took a bit longer then we thought it would.
I am also looking for a overnight job also to help with finances. So I am not sitting around doing nothing. I am a stay at home mother and I have always found ways to make extra money certain times of the years. I do taxes and I bake cakes and Christmas cookies.
I have applied for walmart as a stock person for overnights and have been searching the net for more overnight jobs due to us only having one car and we have a 3 year old and I need to be home for him during the day and also get my oldest son to and from school. I am NOT looking for a free ride here, just a little help so my child can have the best chance in school because he is a really smart little guy. I also will be able to give back and pass it forward when we are able too, which should be very soon.
