I love Orlando, and if you pay attention, you will see the majority of crime happens in the same sections of town over and over again.
I've said it before and I'll say it again...I've lived here 23 years and never had a crime issue - nor has anyone I know. We live in a very quiet new neighborhood in East Orlando now and lived in an established neighborhood in Winter Park for 21 years.
There are only 3 things I dislike about Florida.....HUMIDITY (it's only gotten bad since mid June but will probably last until Oct/Nov)....TAXES (and they wouldn't have been a problem had I stayed in my old house and not lost my SOH or if I hadn't been caught without SOH during the 2 years property values skyrocketed)....and the HOME INSURANCE situation. Hopefully a few years with no hurricanes will help that, but I doubt we'll ever see the insurances rates of a few years ago in Florida again.

I have lived on and off in Orlando for over 10 years. I have lived in Altamonte, in Casselberry, St. Cloud, Metrowest, and downtown.
The only time I have been a victim of crime was in Metrowest. I currently live downtown where all the "chicken littles" claim is just this horrid crime-filled ghetto. I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. It's beautiful, safe, fun, family oriented, (yes I said SAFE), and has such an interesting mix of people.
I walk my dogs, at night, less than 5 blocks from the center of downtown and I never have any issues.
99.9999999999% of the crime is in one area. The thing that bothers me is the random crime like the person being shot on I-4. However I see it in every city and I won't stop living my life because of it.

Too much growth, too soon, and not having the proper infrastructure to keep up with everything. Downtown is going thru a renaissance of new construction and I can't wait till most of the new highrises are done, it's going to be beautiful. However, there's alot of places that need a giant makeover and face-lift.
As I've posted before, I can only describe Orlando as Los Angelami (a mix of Los Angeles and Miami).
....I haven't figured out how to combine L.A, Miami, and Orlando into one yet but give me a few days and a martini or two.

How about Or LAmi?

No area in perfect. After 20 some years in CO, I was sick of the snow, and thus moved. Some people here complain about the job market, but working for a nation wide company has its benifit. I had a job here before I moved. Crime sucks, people can't drive, no one speaks english, but no snow so far.

I lived in Orlando for almost 5 years and I liked it, small city but with more of a big city feel. Definitely more cosmopolitan compared to Tampa

It can be if you are oblivious to the different parts of town you drive through......crime that is.....there are some people who say things are totaly safe and are the oblivious types then there are others who have heard of things happening but realize that we are in the U.S. and crime can be everywhere but its not so much a problem for them personally and that type is also aware of thier surroundings and takes precautions........but there are some oblivious people though.....for example: people who would walk thier dog on church street and walk under the I-4 overpass into that neighborhood with nice clothes and a rolex on thier wrist without thinking anything is wrong in that area.....they might say "well nothing happened to me when i did it".......i would say they were probably just lucky and were there at the right time
