Disney doesn't promote too fast either unless you are GAY. Many of the middle management people are gay, and you will hit a glass ceiling that you cannot get past. It is tough even with a great work history.

Disney is also one of my clients. Many of the women I work with could have been extras in the "Stepford Wives" movie and the dudes are 70% gay. Nice folks...very professional...but not an environment I would feel comfortable working in. |

My wife is an executive with Disney and has been there for going on 11 years now and the company has been exceptionally good to us. She is neither gay nor a "stepford" but does have a degree in accounting and has an MBA. I own a real estate company so if we can help please let me know. I am certain she would look at your resume and make recomendations if you were my cleint on relocation. Be cautious of too much of the "gay thing"; I'm not sure what entertainment based company is not populated with that sexual orientation but at the end of the day who cares. Last time I checked being gay or not has little to do with job performance.
Good luck |

My brother is upper managerment, making great money and isn't gay either. He started off working as a lifeguard in High School and without a college education worked his way up.
Al Weiss is a good ol' boy from Central Florida who did not have an ivy league education (University of Central Florida and Rollins College) nor is he gay (I went to school with his son) and worked his way up to be the President of Walt Disney Resort and is now the President of World Wide Operations for Disney. |

TerryRiddle ~ I am an Accountant who after 21 years with my company found out that as of 12/31/08 our department's "services will no longer be needed"
. DH and I are exploring all possibilities. We love WDW, so of course a move to Florida came up. I have looked at the Disney Careers website and found several Finance/Accounting positions. Would you be able to give me a rough idea of salary ranges for those positions? Thanks ![]() |

You should do a search on the Orlando forum on "Disney". You will find a LOT of people detest that company. It exploits and mistreats employees. It fires employees under the FL pathetic labor laws when they feel like it or when their stock drops 50 cents. ![]() Only about 1% of the Disney workforce is paid very well and treated well. These are upper management, what they call "The Golden Children" or "Mickey's Club". The rest 99% of the Disney workforce gets the raw end of the deal - low pay, no benefits, and crappy treatment. Think it's easy to become a "Golden Child"? HAH!! You better know someone in the inside of have a Ivey-League MBA or you will be told you need to start at the bottom of the food chain. Also, after working for Disney, your resume will be "tainted". A lot of ex-Disney workers will denythat VEHEMENTLY, as they don't want to look like suckers or anything. I can understand it, but as someone who has worked with ex-Disney employees, they tell me horror stories of how much crap they got from interviewers when trying to change jobs after Disney. Stuff like "couldn't get a job anywhere else, so you went Disney, huh" or they do not believe you when you say you quit your Disney job , because so many people are fired from that company. Not to mention the kinds of comments you will get overall... "this person is so desperate it will put on a 70lbs-100lbs fur costume on and walk around in 100 degree heat for $7.15/h.... eeewwww...". Trust me, do NOT go work for Disney. You will regret it bitterly. Oh and God-forbid you get hurt while working for Disney. They will make your work comp claim a living Hell. You will be humiliated, fired, and suffer detrimental financial consequences. Oh and if you are not Gay, forget about promotions at Disney. If you don't like gays for whatever reason, get ready to like them if you work for Disney because you will have a ton of Gay Days at Disney. Disney is the #1 promoter of gay employment and gay preferential treatment for years in Florida. Can't say you have not been warned now! Last edited by Nirvana-Guy; 08-12-2007 at 11:12 PM.. |

Nirvana Guy, I have been reading your posts for a while now. While I cannot comment on the whole Orlando Crime Situation, I can say that what you said about Disney is a load of lies. Having worked there, I can say that it is completely different than you have mentioned. I don't know why you are so negative. First of all, Full Time Benefits are great! Secondly, I know people who wear those "fur costumes" and they do not look at it as a desperate move, but something that they really enjoy. Many people who work for Disney work there because they love the company and what it stands for and what it produces. Sure, I bet you there are some people who use their entry-level jobs just because they need a job. But many qualified people DO work there because they want to! And your comment about Gay Days? Um, I see it as AWESOME that Disney accepts ALL types of people in a welcoming environment. It's not supposed to be a place that is magical just for straight people. It's for PEOPLE. I, for one, would be proud and am proud to have worked for Disney and hope to work there again in the future.
