Two of us are in the Sanford area working for at least two or three more weeks. We are trying to find some things to do on weekends that are within an hour to 90 minutes from here. We do not want to do theme/water parks or beaches. We're going to Orlando next weekend to do some shopping at a couple stores but overall shopping is not high on our list of things to do. Any thoughts? Also. Any must do restaurants within an hour of here?

Thanks

I know Beckycat will be able to help you a lot. For some dining and some nightlife try Rt 46 entertainment complex right there in Sanford.

Route 46 Entertainment District®

What type of things interest you?

I was going to ask the same question.

Here are a few things to do:

Go to Colonial Town Park at night on the weekends. There are several restaurants with entertainment . (Band, DJ, one man bands, etc) There's also a movie theater and shopping.

Go to Captain's Cove on the weekends day or night. There is an outdoor deck with a pool and a band.

Go to Alive after 5 on Thursday 9/9. It's a street party with music, food and drink sampling for $7 per person. Sanford Alive After 5 Event Headquarters :: Historic Sanford Welcome Center :: Florida :: - Historic Sanford Welcome Center, Inc.

Go to the Farmer's Market. Sanford Farmers Market

Have lunch on the water at Wolfy's.

Listen to the band Friday and Saturday nights on the outdoor stage at 8PM at the Rt 46 Entertainment complex.

Go see the animals at the Sanford Zoo. http://www.centralfloridazoo.org/introplanyourvisit (broken link)

They have a car show on the Riverwalk once a month. Celery City Cruisers: (http://www.freewebs.com/celerycitycruisers/ - broken link)

Listen to some Jazz. http://www.ci.sanford.fl.us/events/xjazzed.html (broken link)

Hope this helps!

Some good ideas here. Hard to day what interests us. Something we can do in an hour or three and not make a day of it. Walking historic areas can be good as I love to take pics.

You can walk around the historic part of Sanford to take pics of the old homes. Some streets include Park Ave, Magnolia, Palmetto, and in the vicinity. Stay on the east side of 17/92 and the west side of Sanford Ave. They've restored several homes.

Also, the flea market. http://www.fleaworld.com/joomla/ (broken link)

Yup, just make sure you go Sat or Sun, not Friday. All the venders are there then.
