Simple solution for tailgaters...don't look into your rearview mirror at them.It drives people absolutely nuts when they are not being noticed!
I only do this when I'm being tailgated and have no way of getting right over for them. Also if I'm already going over the speed limit.
People who ride others bumpers are everywhere. If somebody ever does hit me because of something stupid like that...they better have a good lawyer!

Or brake hard. They will get the ticket for hitting you.

Florida law states slower traffic keep right. So if someone comes up on you in the left lane move over even if your at or over the speed limit. If you are in the left lane and the traffic in the right lane is the same speed its a moving road block to cars or trucks that want to pass. just move to the right lane. Trucks can't pass and some drivers will risk a crash to pass. The left lane is the passing lane.

Yes, I agree, the left lane - on the interstate - is for passing. No one should cruise along in the left lane - for just the reason Firemed stated. In business or residential areas however, if there are two lanes, both are used for entering and leaving the road. You can't turn left from the right lane (although lord knows I've seen enough people try it).
Also, there are still plenty of roads with only one lane in either direction. There's no justification for tailgating on these roads.
And they tailgate you when you're in the right lane, too! It doesn't make sense. Should someone's great big hurry (or selfishness) take precedence over other people's safety - even if the slower drivers ARE in the wrong? If the tailgater is looking to exceed the speed limit, is his "right" to break the law more important than public well-being?

And you can sue them for damages. That's if they have insurance or anything worth suing them for.

Tell you what, Im not a LLH or even slow, I move over if someone needs to go 100..... but I'm not afraid to have someone eat trailer hitch or ditch in the grass, I've done it before and never had a ticket. If they survive the first flash of brakelights, they stay away. If they are stupid enough (like on a cell phone going 90) to persist it really costs them.

I totally agree with you...people LOVE to tailgate me. In fact I have been rear ended three times because of it...I didn't brake to make them hit me either...
I drive an Expedition, one time it scratched the black mat on my chrome bumper but the rest of the time it just totally messed up their car...serves them right if you ask me. If you can't pay attention and see something as large as my truck then your too stupid to drive !!!

Thank you Firemed - it IS the law!
Something else to ponder: not all vehicles that are in a legitimate 'emergency' are driving Emergency vehicles. When someone needs a heart or a liver transplant, do you know how the organ gets to the surgery room? Via courier in cooler on ice in a regular unmarked car - it's the fastest way.
So the next time you're blocking up the left lane, think about the person waiting moment by moment for that heart that just might be in the car behind you.

It's the law to move over to the right....right?......well it is also the "law" to not break the speed limit........who is right when the car in front is going 80-83 mph in a 70 zone and there is a car behind acting like he is impatient swerving back and forth behind the guy in front and tailgating him......who is in the right in this situation?......
its not our fault that the driver in back doesnt have the patience to come up on the guy in front in a slow patient way to allow that person time to get over.....there is only the personality problem with the aggresor for wanting to control everything and if he cant then he intimidates behind the protection of his vehicle.......if he was walking behind me and trying to force me out the way...he would be on his ass from a right cross...........
The law also states that if you feel your life is threatened in a life threatening situation by another citizen of our state then you have the right to use deadly force......just remember....that guy in the front car .....u dont know him......he could be off duty police, ex-marine, ex-con, or a man who invented something to save lives....but you wanna force him off the road to go 90 mph breaking the speed limit....lol......try your luck but there are plenty people getting shot for being pushy out there nowadays...just remember that when pushing someone even if they are going past the speed limit

They have laws against tailgating in Australia now and that proves it is dangerous.......and needs to be adressed somewhere....hopefully we will get these laws because there are alot of hotheads out there trying to "intimidate" people on the road....they aren't trying to just pass on the left....they are reallly just trying to believe they control people around them......i understand when someone is going 20 mph or 10 mph under the speed limit but when you are going the speed limit or a little over and people come up on u without giving you time to move over then they are wrong.........my father worked for D.O.T. and gave out tickets to speeders and you know what he told them when thier excuse was that they were trying to keep up with the flow of traffic?....he said the law is the law and you cant brake the speed limit......so what do we do when someone wants to go 15 -20 mph over the limit when we are already going 5 - 10 mph over?
Its not that some people are just staying in front on purpose when you come up on them....it might be fear of a ticket or that they cant get over right away but you are going too fast to notice "thier" situation...you only see in front of "you" (selfish) ....and that aggresivness then makes the person in front not move over because you are really saying to the person in front that "i control you".....which makes anyone feel like they are nothing and so they must defend thier pride by not moving.........but it all starts with the attitude of the car in back.......
if i see someone coming from behind really fast and they kinda notice my speed and slow down a little and give a few car lengths then i see that as being respectfull and i move right away as soon as i can for them, but if you just keep coming on my butt and get really close without giving me a safe chance to move then i will resist.....i stay a little above the speed limit but since you have the attitude i wont let you own me in a demeaning way because i think you are the kind of person that hides him/her self behind the protection of a vehicle ...if you passed someone like that walking you would be considered an a-hole and might even get beat up....but i forgot....the car is your personality type's protection from someone actually punching you....
