Vonage for your home phone is the cheapest. It is $24.99 a month plus tax but you have to have high speed internet. For around $50 a month you can go with MetroPCS and get a cell phone with unlimited minutes and text but you have to buy the phone ($100+) and their coverage area is semi-limited. Both companies customer service stinks and when we had Vonage the phone didn't work have the time but it was the price was worth it! Hope this helps

We had BellSouth (AT&T) had the cheapest local service possible, no added features and paid $6 a month for 5 cents a minute long distance - our bill with tax and NO long distance calls was $42.00 a month.

We switched to Bright House Digital Phone, have ALL features, free long distance and it costs us $20.00 a month. However, we already had Digital Cable and RoadRunner High Speed Internet with Bright House. All together our Digital Cable (with 2 digital boxes and remotes and a couple of Digital Channel Packages), Internet and Digital Phone cost us $124.00 a month including all fees and taxes.

I'm using Lingo, in conjunction with BrightHouse's High Speed internet. They offer unlimited calls in the US, Canada, Puerto Rico, Western Europe and Australia for $21.99/mo.

Same thing as Vonage (VOIP), just a bit cheaper.

Sunrocket appears to be in trouble, though. As an affiliate reselling their service, I was told that the referral service was discontinued because SunRocket was not able to pay their bills. So, Sunrocket might not be around that long anymore.

Keep in mind that with some services you may not get the full benefits of a 911 call.

Good call, as predicted, they've just gone down the tubes: Epicenter - Wired Blogs
