Hello all...

My son will be 3 in November, and has been involved with Early Steps since he was 13 months. He is currently getting OT, PT and Speech. He has been diagnosed with PDD (I think he has Autism, but neurologist says otherwise). Currently, he is in private half day preschool and getting services at home, But services are 'cut off' when he turns 3, and so he will need to start going to an ESE preschool through the school district. We're slated for him to go to Hawks Rise here in Tallahassee for their awesome ESE preschool program.

But, due to layoffs,we are moving from Tallahassee to Orlando in January. I have spent hours looking for a list of Orlando Elementary schools that offer the pre-k program (not VPK, VE is what it's called... I think) that would allow him to get the services he needs. We also have a daughter that will be starting kindgergarten in August 2011 so keeping them at the same school is important. I can't find a comprehensive list anywhere! We are moving to the Windermere/Winter Garden/Ocoee area. But in order to choose a house, we need to pick a school so we will be in the correct district. I've choosen 8 elementary schools that are in the area we are interested in, but I don't know if they have the program... and if there is a GREAT program elsewhere in Orlando, we are willing to consider other areas.

Can anyone help me, please???

Here are the 'regular' elementary schools we are considering:
1. Palm Lake Elementary
2. Thornebrooke Elementary
3. Bay Meadows Elementary
4. Doctor Phillips Elementary
5. Keenes Crossing Elementary
6. West Brooke Elementary
7. Lake Whitney Elementary
8. Windermere Elementary

I'm a former VE teacher in Orlando and while the specific name of the school eludes me right now, I know there is an elementary school in the immediate downtown area that caters specifically to your son's needs. If you give OCPS a call I'm sure they can tell which one. Also because of your son's specific needs it shouldn't matter where you live in the Orlando area for him to attend. I know you are hoping to live on the west side of the county, you might check to see if there is a similar program in the west learning community.Best to you and your son!

I have read on other posts that Thornebrooke has a great ESE program. I am trying to find one in Seminole County, I wish you well.
