The first thing I would do is fill out the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

That is your ticket to getting Pell Grant and many need-based grants from the feds, state, or college. This is my personal opinion, but I wouldn't get a student loan of any type if at all possible. I am holding off getting a Masters until I pay for my Bachelors and save for more schooling.
Of course, there are plenty of scholarships out there. Check with Valencia's Financial Aid Office. Fastweb.com is a great website to use to search for scholarships.

Being a Latina definitely helps in terms of financial aid. Having kids and people that depend on you should also benefit you in this regard. I agree, the best way to find out is to fill out the FAFSA and/or talk to financial advisers at VCC.

Alright. I'm recently separated from my husband, a student at valencia. I'm coming to a very scary realization that he did everything for me, including apply for my student loans for me. I've been on the valencia web site for almost two hours now, reading, and trying to figure out how to apply for a loan. My status has x-amount available for summer and I've already filled out FASFA this year. What the heck do I do now...? Every form I looked at was a PDF to be printed and then I have no idea what. I feel pretty incompetent.
