Moving to Orlando from Boston
Were a young couple from Ireland.we moved to Boston
7 years ago. we have a beautiful 4 year old girl and a 3 year old dog.
Boston been great but we feel we need a change.we've
Been to Orlando once and we loved it.now were
Planning on moving there in mar/april 2011 and we need
Advice about a few things.

1st . were to live...we are looking for some where close
To downtown that has good public transport
we were looking at winter park/college park but
We are open to suggestions.would like to live close
To other Irish people if possible.

2nd. Work... he's a carpenter/roofer with his own
Truck and tools.we know the construction business
has been kinda slow these last two years but things
are starting to pick up again here in boston and
were wondering if its the same in orlando.
She works in the hospitality industry.she will be looking for
Bartender/server jobs also elderly care positions.

3rd schools... we need a good daycare/school.

4th. Traveling... I plan on driving down from mass.do
I need to change my mass plates to Florida plates if
I could keep my mass plates that would be one less thing

We appreciate you taking time to respond

Cheers ...

I strongly recommend you do your research before you move, you say you have been to Orlando once? and for vacation? Yes I am sure you loved it but it is NOT what your day to day would be like here. Many times on these posts people make decisions to move here becasue of their experience as a tourist.
Public transportation is close to non-existent, not what you are used to you MUST have a car here.
Construction? what is that? nothing is going on here.
I am sure you can find a jos in the service industry, which is what Orlando only has. But salaries are not the greatest.
Education compared to the Northeast is horrible, very few acceptable school districts, do your research.

I agree. Coming here once on vacation isn't a good way to measure moving somewhere.

Unemployment is very high.

And since I'm Irish American I'm going to add the sun factor. For someone to do outside work here like a roofer is brutal most of the year. We're talking skin cancer.

Let's face facts Irish people don't tan, not that the sun is good for anyone, but you don't want to be working on roofs in 90 degree heat. It is brutal to do any type of outside work here, most of the year.

This area, and most of FL is really hurting in construction. If your hubby wants to work for himself he will have to get some sort of a license etc... Have you considered other areas? Texas, Houston, Dallas, . You can usually keep your out of state plates for 30 days and then you have to change them. Look at the DMV webpage. I think might still have a out of state fee too. The Bus system here is very bad so you might just write it off.
