We are a newly married couple considering moving to Orlando. My wife is a nurse so she will be looking for a job in a hospital preferrably Emergency room.

I am a dog trainer that will be looking to train dogs in the Orlando area.

Our questions:
1. We are looking for a neighborhood that has properties with 1 acre or more, any suggestions? (We want stay away from the tourism, and we want a safe neighborhood)

2. How dog friendly is Orlando? And is there a significant need for dog training? If so what areas/zip codes?

First of all, this area is very dog friendly, especially where I live in Seminole County. They have many events around that dogs are welcome. There are even outdoor patios at restaurants that allow you to dine with your dog. We have a great dog park here too. Actually, there are a couple dog parks.

As for starting a dog training business, I think it could be done here. Just with any other business, you have to build up your clientele. I started my pet sitting business that way and it so far has worked out. I feel one good thing about living here is if you can get creative with starting your own business, people will use your service.

As for 1 acre or more properties, you may have to go out a little further. They are available, but for big bucks if you are closer to Orlando. Are you looking to buy or rent? What price range? Are schools an issue?

Thanks for all of the information...that is very good news for us. We are wanting to buy due to the fact that it is hard to rent with dogs (we already have 3 big dogs.) We are currently living in Colorado so it isn't the easiest to get down to Florida for us, but we will be making a couple of trips to check things out and hopefully find a house. Price range probably under 200,000.
As far as schools we dont have kids yet and aren't planning on it for a while, so that is not one of the major things we are looking at right now. We wont mind the commute as long as it isn't too far since my wife is a nurse and needs to be fairly close to a bigger hospital.

You price range is definately doable. I would try looking in parts of Sanford or Oviedo b/c I think you can find more property there. Sanford has nice areas and not so nice areas, so you do have to be selective. There is a hospital in Sanford too.

Good luck!
