Default Any Hawaiian restaurants?

Are there any Hawaiian restaurants in the Orlando area? Not the "resort" type of food? Foods like lau lau, kalua pork, poi, lomi salmon, etc.

Thanks.

To answer OPs question correctly since it seems I'm the only one that knows what he's talking about - No. Roy's is not Hawaiin at all its "Fusion" and has more in common with a sushi restaurant than an Hawaiin restaurant.

I wish there was, I would kill for some Palusami and Taro from the Umu.

Polynesian resort in WDW area is pretty good, if not completely over priced.

I checked Roy's menu, and that's the usual resort-type food that is described as Hawaiian food.

Sounds like this would be a good market to tap. When we lived in Washington State, there were many Hawaiian-style restaurants that were always busy. Even L&L has a franchise near Sea-Tac Airport.

I think I'll check out catering companies. If I find any, I'll let you know.

The real problem is Taro is hard to come by in Orlando and even if Taro isn't used in the dish the leaves are. Likewise the Avocado and Papaya we have here in Florida is a different species and doesn't taste the same at all. Then once you get over those hurdles we don't have breadfruit or mango trees which are staples over there. Mangoes like Taro even when not in the dish are used for flavoring by cooking the leaves with the meat like you would a Bay Leaf. Turkey stuffed with Mango Leaves is delicious. You can make Poke (Hawaiian Tuna dish) or Oka (Samoan Tuna dish) at home easily enough. I personally prefer Poke and I make it about once a month since its simple and tastes great.

If you're ever on the west coast of Florida, near Punta Gorda, There is a little place called Jack's Restaurant. Jacks-Restaurants.com One of their Chefs is a Hawaiian from Puna (born/raised Puna then Maui for many years) his name is Danny and he'll make you the yummiest plate lunches. Call ahead to make sure he is working - ask for him to let him know what you like, he's usually there 5-6 days a week, off Tues/Wed. Let them know you'll be in the next day and he'll make sure to have his awesome potato mac salad and any kind plate lunch you want. Just call ahead so he knows. Some days he just makes the specials, Kahlua Pork, Kalbi Ribs, Hawaiian BBQ, he even ships in Portuguese sausage sometimes and has Portuguese bean soup on menu - always goes quick! Danny Boy is the best! (my hubby) and the best Hawaiian Food and Plate Lunches in Florida!
