Hey Inthesky07, all I can tell you is that I lived in the Plantation Park Apartments back in 2001 and 2002 ( right off the Lake Buena Vista exit on I-4) and I was very happy there. Sadly, I've heard that Orlando has changed an awful lot since especially 2003 and 2004 after the horrible hurricanes.
Someone just posted on here somewhere that the Lake Buena Vista area is still "relatively" safe, and that's a very loaded term, because of more police presence due to that area being the major tourist area. I loved it because I could just jump on I-4 real quick, get off one or two exits away to go to work ( I worked for Disney just for something to do ) and, well, I was extremely happy there. I'm not sure you can trust the apartment reviews on the internet because it appears that it is mostly negative posters and you really don't know about all the people that had at least a bearable time in their apartments because they don't usually know about the site.
The apartments are expensive for what you get, but if they are safer, which I still can't promise, it would certainly be worth it. I still constantly think about moving back there. I don't have to work anymore, so I would just like a place that I could feel reasonably safe. I know that there aren't many places in the whole country, in large cities at least, that don't have a problem with crime. I actually worry more about the people who run the apartments going through my apartment when I'm not home more than I do someone coming in and taking my old TV. LOL!! That's unfortunately the rumors I have heard that are happening in some apt. complexes. Plantation Park used to have a dead bolt lock without a key on the outside, but new owners, condo owners, etc., replace all the locks with keys to both the door and the deadlock from the outside. It seems like they want to make sure they can get into your apartment at any time. Before, if you were home, you would have at least that little bit of safety that it would take a hard kick to get through one of those doors. Now, anyone with a key can get in while you are home or not. I understand maintenance needing to be done, but I don't like someone just killing time in my apartment because they have a key.
It's a shame really, because I'm fine with apartment living after having my own home and land and not being able to deal with all that anymore. But, DAMN, I would like some privacy for 1000 to 1200 a month not counting utilities.
Oops. Sorry about the long story. Hope someone else will answer if they know. I would like to know some knew opinions also. Again, it was really nice about five or six years ago. Actually, I would leave my sliding door to my patio open every night for my cats to go out on the screened in porch. I was never afraid. Not sure I would feel that way if I moved back there now, which I almost did last January. They were willing to give me half off two months rent plus something else that was so odd that it actually frightened me away. Plus the first floor apartments they had available at the time were not to my liking. In one, the columns to the very nice porch area were falling apart due to water damage. Must have been from 2004 hurricanes and it still wasn't fixed.
Wow, as you can read, I still want to come back and I keep hoping someone will come up with some good news about the area.
Good luck.
