I'm considering moving to the Seminole County area in the next year or so and would like to find a great neighborhood for walking. I'm looking for paths or routes that are safe, preferably with some tree cover, where I could wander around for 5-10 miles without a lot of busy streets to cross. I would like to be able to walk out the front door and start walking without having to get in the car and drive to a trailhead.

I'm aware of the Cross-Seminole Trail, which seems great, but it seems to be pretty isolated in spots and I wonder if it is safe for a walker.

I'm pretty flexible about housing, and the only real deal-killer for me would be an HOA with a strict pet restriction, since I do temporary fostering for rescues and have up to 4 dogs at any given time.

I'd be most grateful for any suggestions. Thanks!

Wekiva

The Wekiva area sounds about right for you.

I was going to suggest the same area by Sabal Point.

Sabel Point has an HOA as does most of the Wekiva Springs area, you will also need to check with local city/county/state laws as to running a business from your home.

Hope this helps,

BTW, the Cross-Seminole Trail is safe. We lived where there were HOA's and had 5 dogs.

Thanks so much for the replies. The Wekiva area sounds great with over 20 miles of trails! I'm also glad to hear that the Cross-Seminole trail is safe. Some of the Winter Springs and Oviedo neighborhoods near the trail sound very nice.

The whole HOA thing will take some getting used to for me, since we don't have anything like that where I live. Hopefully they won't regard my fostering dogs as a business, since it's volunteer!

HOA's aren't all that bad just need to check the doc's for rules and regs, and remember if a rule is in the doc's but the neighborhood seems a little lax on the issue it can be applied at any time.

Best to direct any questions to the board as elections happen yearly and enforcement of rules & reg's could change based on board members and the doc's.

On the volunteer issue I have no personal thoughts other than check before you buy with the various powers that be.

I know of a lady that just recently bought a townhome and as she was moving in found out her 50 pound dog wasn't allowed. Did anyone check, who knows, lucky she has the were-with-all to buy elsewhere as it's now a rental unit.

Hope this helps,
